Dell Inspiron 8000
P3 900mhz
256mb RAM
ATI Mobility 4 16MB (3/12/02 driver, most updated I could find)
Windows XP Home (fully updated)
ffdshow or Divx5 decoder (same results)

I've always used WMP, mainly because all the other players I try do not play movies correctly (all DivX 4&5, b-frames only in 5). I've tried PowerDivX, BSPlayer, ZoomPlayer, and they all offer the same problem: slow playback. Usually about 10fps, although I've gotten it up to 20fps, but I cannot get playback at the full 24fps from these players. I just downloaded WMP9, and now WMP even offers the same problems. I've tried different hardware acceleration levels, but unless I take it all the way down (0, 1st or 2nd settings), the movie will not play correctly (and then full-screen playback is not scaled to full screen, but rather the same size video on an all-black screen). I've read this is an overlay problem, but cannot find out how to correct it. Has anyone experienced anything similar, and figured out a direct way to correct it?

OvERaCiD23 you ll hate me for this but i think its backup and reinstalling WinXP time (try to get urself a copy of WinXP PRO this time ;) ).I m a video nutcase and i want ALL my videos played at 25fps using WMP 6.4 (Believe me this version can play anything thrown at it,even DVD MPEG-2...) but it needs a clean system.WMP does not like a lot of filters installed at the same time,it hates fragmeneted disks and all this stuff...
I reinstalled WinXP Pro some weeks ago and now i m playing all the videos (DivX 5.xx,Huffuy 2.11,Uncompressed,Mpeg-1,Mpeg-2 etc) at 25fps WITHOUT any problems.
If you still dont wanna format/install WIn again, try uninstalling all the DS filters/codecs you dont really need and try reseting the AVI file settings in the registry (it works MIRACLES on some systems, including mine-P3 866Mhz).
Get it here in Doom9 download section...
