Hehe heya folks,
When I rip the subitles out of a DVD the times are either right on the money or they lag behind by as far as 37 hundreths of a second. I'm only having this problem with the second DVD in the series. The first one came out beautifully.
I rip the subs with subrip, then convert them to SSA format from there. I've read the guides but it doesnt mention anything about the times being incorrect strait from the VOB itself.
Anybody have any ideas?

Does your second DVD has a logo, trailer etc before the movie?
Could it be that is causing the delay. I've yet to come up a DVD with wrong timing in subs.
Any way u can corerct the time lag by adding the correct amount down to frame in the srt file.
Just load the srt and use the offset function, the one with the clock icon

Would this help if throughout the 20 minute episode about half of them are still timed correctly? .. and yeah, it does have a trailer. It's just basically the 2nd dvd in an anime, Vandread to be specific.
The first one ripped fine, the 2nd is being a pain. If it was just a problem with the offset I could use Substationalpha to modify it there or Virtualdub by going into Interleaving if I recall correctly.
The thing is, there is no set pattern, it's just that they suck. Like half of them lag behind by a different amount. Would the recommendation that you were kind enough to give me still apply?
Something else that might be pertinent is this... the first time that i ripped from the 2nd VOB using DVD2AVI there were 27 blank frames before the first real frame. The second time there are no blank frames. Even so, with that said about 40% of the subs are still on the ball.
Any further thoughts? I guess, worst case scenario I get to practice timing from a wav file.

Does the time lag equals the duratiuon of the trailer?
r u talking about a NTSC title that has not DROP FRAME true?
if that is the case then all your subs are out by an amount that becomes apparent inthe middle of the episode. Or its a poorly authored dvd that has its subs screwed up.
U can calculate the time lag from the point that becomes apparent and subtract the specified time from the rest of the subs, merging at the end the 1st part that is correct and u have saved elsewhere with the 2nd corrected part replacing the out of sync subs.
If nothing else works, I suggest that u work on Maestro, load up your assets, and watch the realtime preview window fixing the position by hand.
