View Full Version : Gordian Knot screws up the bitrate if I change "anything" from the default settings

I'v been trying to divx a dvd for some time and if I change the resolution or add subtitles the size of the final file is around 550mb instead of the 700mb I choose. If I just divx the dvd without changing anything from the default settings it outputs the movie as a 700mb which is what I want.
am I doing something wrong or ?

Hi-
Still working on that same movie?
am I doing something wrong
Probably. The subtitles wouldn't have anything to do with it. But lowering the resolution too much definitely could. You may be saturating the bit rate and maxing out the size. Run a Compression Test to help choose the right resolution.

I gave up :P
still have the movie though and want to divx it.
I did compresability check and loaded up the file and... what next?

We don't know much about the procedures you are using. Here's how I use the compressibility test:
Open the .d2v project.
Include actual or estimated audio file size (Audio A section)
Include the interleaving overhead.
Using b/p*f, choose an initial resolution and file size.
From the "Save&Encode" window, select resizing method, trim options, noise reduction, etc.
Press the "Now" button to run a first compressibility test.
After it completes, ignore b/p*f and use the load% to determine compressibility.
Make any necessary changes to resolution and/or file size based on load%.
If any changes were made, retest.
Using the same resizing and other filters, press the "Save & Encode" button.
