Right now I've a XP200+ € 2200+ and a Seagate Barracuda IV 80GB 7200rpm, and I'm thinking in getting a new board with RAID and a new barrcuda do put has RAID 0 (striping) so the question is would that give me any advantage in dvd2svcd?

Hard drive's impact on performance has been discussed before, and the general conclusion is that to most extents (given you have a hard drive made in the last couple years), it won't make any difference if you have a huge cache, RAID, or 15000 RPM SCSI. The reason for this is because video encoding relies almost 100% on the CPU, and the hard drive is not being used the entire time, since the CPU is much slower than the data that needs to be written.

I would still suggest you use a RAID configuration because of the overall improvements you'll see in other applications, and in Windows, but it won't help your encoding times.

Thanks :) In this case I will have to think it well since I've a Seagate wich itsnt that good with RAID and I dont have a motheboard with RAID but I plan to get one soon :)

Like the previous post said, I also didn't get much improvement with things like encoding when I switched to a raid 0 but I noticed a much smoother video capture, if you do that.

It's nice to be able to buy two fairly cheap 5400 rpm drives and get better throughput than with a more expensive 7200 rpm drive.
