View Full Version : Would any dvd player play this ?

Hi!

I want to start making DVD-R and I might use Tmpgenc to encode the files.

I found out in the project wizard an option called "Low-res dvd" or something like that. It encodes in "352x288-1850kbits-Mpeg2".

Since I've never seen this format on a dvd-video, I was wondering if any standalone player would play it correctly, like a full-res dvd.

Thanx!

if you're going to use TMpgEnc or CCE you can safely go for 352x576 resolution at this bitrate (that is supported too), but yeah, it is in DVD specs so every player should play it.

OK, thanx.

It's just that I had never heard of that resolution on dvds before.
I guess it isn't used very much.

it's just SOO bad quality that it's not worth anymore. Maybe you can useit for sub-1000kbit bitrates, but I'd recommend you not to use these in the first place :)

that setting is not sooo bad. Itll be better quality than vcd, and will work good for TV shows, or anything that is 4:3 source natively.

on the other hand with 1850kbit bitrate you can do way more (double the resolution to mentioned 352x576)
