I have a small problem with mplayer running with a gui. mplayer itself is running perfectly. But as soon as I use the gui, the CPU load gets up to 100% and the output is therefore not smooth.
Compilation did run well, just like the gui runs well, except for that small performance problem.
CPU load without gui is about 10% average, so it is not my box that is too slow for drawing a gui :)
- SuSE 8.0 with 2.4.18 kernel (not modified)
- gcc 2.95.3
- Windowmaker as Windowmanager, but it's the same with gnome 1.4.0 as well as with kde 3.0
EDIT: Ooops, I forgot the most important: mplayer is v0.90pre6
Thanks in advance !

What about graphX being surrounded by gui+video rendering?
It may seems imposs. but i had that kinda probe with Xine when attempting to update the gui.
A+

I think my X-server is screwed up somehow, just don't know where :)
Another interesting thing is, that the OSD (which does work well without gui) is "rendered" into the output when using gui, which means that the OSD-text moves togheter with the motion in a movie.
Nice effect I can tell you :D

Do you think it could be your graphic card setup. I have a Gforce and once I installed the Nvidia linux drivers - my machine ran much better in the gnome environment. I run Redhat 7.3 and the default vesa drivers are crap with a Gforce. One other thing that completely solved some minor dvd playback issues I had with Xine was to run hdparm and set the dma to 1 (on) on my LF-D310 recorder. Play back is very good in Xine now with dma. Redhat ships with it off I also have mplayer loaded but don't use it much.
Totally off topic but I finally figured out how to record DVD-RAM with RH7.3. This may be easy for others but I had to do a ton of research to finally get it. Now DVD-RAM acts just like another hard drive. I have not yet recorded a DVD-R yet. I only have good Verbatims and don't want to waste on a test. Are you burning dvd-r in linux?
It is a lot of fun working this stuff out in Linux.

@ abatis
Thanks for your help but I'm already using the nVidia 2960 for Linux.
But my problem is solved ! Guess what was wrong: My Soundsystem setup was screwed up ! Strange...
