Hi-

You should have probably continued this in the thread already started. But, no matter.

First, is DivX 5 actually installed in your machine? Open VDub and then go Video-Compression and look for the codec. Second, if the codec is installed, then you might have a bad .avs. Did you run it in the Preview or open it in VDub to scroll around before encoding? It's always a good idea to do that. Anyway, you might post the .avs also (leave out all the lines beginning with "#").

ok I will check that. I am trying it again right now. i will know soon if I get this error again. What's funny is that I have been make perfect Divx for days now. Then all of a sudden this. It happened to me when I first started and I just uninstalled the gordian know and reinstalled it. But that didn't work this time and I am really getting frustrated with it because I just don't understand.

Hi-

Rereading that log again, it seems that you do have DivX5 installed-otherwise I don't think you would have gotten through the first pass. Same with the .avs-it's probably OK, although it wouldn't hurt to check. So, the question arises, where is the .log file? Was one created? Is it in C:\Documents and Settings\janet \My Documents\Crossroads\? Did you move it? Did you delete it? Does it have size?

How's that Britney Spears movie? I guess you liked it, otherwise you wouldn't be copying it.

LOL yes the movie was pretty good. This is really giving me a fit. The log file was right there I never changed anything. I don't undersatnd this was working so damn good then all of a sudden it didn't. I am trying one more time on a different movie. Arghhhh. If you want in the morning I can send you the entire log file. I just don't know what else to do

Hi-

One thing-I found the posts on the same subjects in the Newbies Forum. So don't be surprised if they get deleted in the next day or so. It's called cross-posting and is considered bad form. Please make sure you've read the Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm).

I haven't had your problem of the 2nd pass crashing, so I had to do some research on it (you might try that as well-you're not alone-it's happened to lots of people). Here are some of the remedies offered:

1. When you reinstall GKnot, make sure you don't install DivX4 along with DivX5.02. Evidently, sometimes the two have problems coexisting. Install DivX5.02 last.
2. Make sure you have the latest GKnot26 Update (http://gknot.doom9.org/Software/GordianKnot.0.26.Update.exe) installed. It seems that with an earlier version the 2nd pass crash happened more often.
3.Indeed, check that DivX5.02 is installed by going Video-Compression in Virtual Dub. It seems that even if you installed it, it doesn't always show up when encoding. A reboot should fix that.
4. If you're using Fast Deinterlace, change it in the .avs so that it follows crop, instead of being before crop. Either that or use FieldDeinterlace. But with major Hollywood movies such as Crossroads, you shouldn't need to deinterlace anyway.
5. If none of those things work, all is not lost. Assuming the DivX5.02 log exists (not the GKnot log, but the DivX5.02 log), you can run the 2nd pass manually in DivX5.02 by opening VDub, going Video-Compression-highlight DivX5.02-Configure, and setting the parameters manually (they're easy-not much to do-lots of posts on the subject-or ask again). Here's Doom9's DivX5.02 Guide (http://www.doom9.org/divx5-vdub.htm).

I hope one of these solutions works for you. Let us know how it goes.

I don't know what I did last night but I got up this morning to a perfect movie, again. I think it could have had something to dowith the video codec. I did just reinstall it over the old one last night and started over again. I am fixing to check the other things you said and then I am going to try and do it again. I did notice under the video compresion that the codec 4 is there with the 5. Does that on need to come off or something?
I understand about the cross posting. I work on the sotmesc board. I only posted it here because I thought after awhile that maybe I had posted in the wrong place. Thanks for your help. I will let you know

Hi-

Yeah-If I were you, I think I'd remove DivX4. I've never had DivX5.02 crash on me, and I've never had DivX4 installed. If you have trouble finding where to do it, let us know your operating system. It's different depending on which you have. You might be able to do it with Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add/Remove Software.

Good news about the movie success. You must be feeling better about things now. But maybe Brittney just doesn't like you.:)

So, show your movies to your friends and they'll be amazed. Then tell them to come here to learn how. We need more women. Too many guys here.

It is all about the codec thing. Even though under video compression it was listed. I don't really think it was there. After I installed it again it seems like everything was fine. I have never been so frustrated with anything in a long time.
Ok I do need help removing the codec 4. I am running win2k.
What I don't understand is how the codec worked for days and then quit working. Is that one of those computer mysteries. Right now I really don't care I am just glad I got it working again. I had about 6 DVD's sitting here waiting to be copied. I have about 125 in my collection now.

Hey-

I didn't think the DivX5.02 codec could be installed and it still crash until I read this Thread (http://http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=174439#post174439) a few days ago. I don't know if the first poster is on to something or not, but it couldn't hurt to check before encoding.

As for removing DivX4-I've never used Win2k. So going to Add/Remove Software didn't do it, eh? In WinXP it's Start-Settings-Control Panel-System_Hardware-Device Manager-Sound Video And Game Controllers-Video Codecs-highlight and Remove. If it's in the Program Files, try Start-Programs-DivX4-Uninstall. In Win 98 I remember going to Control Panel-Multimedia, but I forget what happened after that. While looking for the answer I came across all kinds of people having problems with them both installed, so I think your hunch is correct. Maybe someone else has more specific advice for removing DivX4 from a Win2k machine. Good Luck.

LOL I just talked to a friend of mine that makes alot of DivX. He said the codec 5 gets corrupted all the time and all that is needed is to reinstall it. He could have told me that yesterday but made me find out on my own and thats cool. I now see someone else with the same troubles. I appreciate all your help. Let me know if I can return the favor with something else sometime.
