just a specs questino.

why is it that 1 hour of dv is roughly 12 gigs , and when i do 2496 cbr 224 audio in svcd its like around 1 gig for an hour? theres like only 1 meg per second differnce but file sizes are so different

is it just the dv is like 24 or 32 bits and mpeg is lower?

DV is compressed 1:5, at a rate of about 3.6 MB/s, which is about 30,000 kbps. SVCD uses MPEG-2, in your case 2,496 kbps + 224 kbps, which is more than ten times less.

kbps = kilobitpersecond. Ok? bit <> byte (times 8) !!

Exactly. Note that the "kilo" means 1000 in kbps, not 1024.

3,6 MB/s = 3.686,4 kB/s = 3.774.873,6 Bytes/s = 30.198.989 Bits/s = 30199 kbps
