I have been reading posts in different areas of the forum regarding robshot method for getting best quality from CCE. I realize the guide offered at doom9 was intended for dvd>dvd-r conversion. I also have noticed some people have actually been able to utilize this tool for SVCD conversion. I have some high action movies that I feel would be able to utilize the extra quality of the robshot settings, but also need the settings of dvd2svcd program and, unfortunately have not been able to figure out how to utilize them together. I tried for eight hours last night and never figured out how to do it.

I did a 1-pass vbr encode of the last vob file of fast and furious (lots of high action scenes).

Someone told me I had to tweak the bitrate settings under advanced tab until I could get the max Q to 10. However, to get the Q level down to around 10, I was ending up with Bitrates of 8500+. The max bitrate listed for my standalone is 2500. If I set the max br to 2500, avg 2200 and min 0, the Q level shot up to like 50-60. I think the peaks were in mostly the high action scenes(assume).

Maybe I didnt get a grasp of the robshot guide, or the sticky listed in this area of forum for using with svcd, or possibly I am just not understanding something that is right in front of me.

If someone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I am using CCE 2.5 SP with a 2Ghzp4 and using DVD2SVCD. Max bitrate for my player is 2500, I asssume this includes audio, which I normally set at 160-192 depending on movie lenghth, but noticed in fitcd last night that if I put it at 224, that it would allocate more br for the video which makes absolutely no sense to me either.

Please if someone could put this into context for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much.

There is a sticky thread in this forum which name is :

Modification and optimization of robshot method and its possible use with DVD2SVCD

Use the modified DVD2SVCD version included in this thread. Use the Roba method.

I dont understand how to utilize the 1 pass vbr mpv into dvd2svcd, and does max Q need to be at 10 for a good picture, because as I stated, my player is only up to 2500 as stated at vcdhelp. To get that Q level, I would have to have bitrates of about 9000.

Example,

Movie: Fast & Furiuos 2.35:1 ratio (used fitcd and forgot to crop & resize in the avssynth) Following info from the bbmuxed file.00
Bitrate: Peak:3206 Avg:2131
Q:Peak:2.64 Avg:1.03

The Q only peaked at 2.64, and the peak br was at 3206, but movie played almost flawlessly, would the 2.35 ratio have anything to do with it being better since more black bar on screen vs 16:9?
BTW: Setting on cce was 5passVBR, Quality=17, used default fitcd synth.avs after I changed the setting of bitrates, etc.

Question is, if max Q needs to about 10, why does this movie playback so well with only 2.64- and 3206 max br, which is well over 2500, which I set in dvd2svcd setting.

In contrast,
Movie:Time Machine 16.9 ratio
BR Peak:3183 Avg:2470
Q Peak:8.48 Avg 2.24

This movie "Q" peak was reported as 8.48 which is closer to 10, but movie playsback like shit. High action bright scenes are all pixelized and movie screws up alot.

Maybe I misunderstood the reply to my first post:
Run through 1st pass per robshot guide,
advanced settings, see what bitrate you can get down to with max Q of 10...

Please someone explain, I need help and I have already read and did searches on this forum and vcdhelp to help solve this. Share the knowledge- please.

Thanks
