I recently copied a DVD to my hard drive using DVD Decrypter which works very well indeed :)
I'd like to change this ISO file to SVCD format (mainly for the smaller file size on my HD)
Is this possible? And if so, how do I do it?

it is really posibble, all you have to do is just read the guides http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm

Well other than downloading and trying every single piece of software out there, is there any particular software that you recommend to do this.
By posting the question I'm looking for an answer from peoples experience - not a lesson in how to read etc thank you ;)
You took the trouble to respond - thank you for your time :)

FLASKMPEG for beginners, because it's easier to uses; and DVD2SVCD for the advances users, for better quality(i think)

I'll check out Flaskmpeg then :)
But does this specifically convert the DVD Decryptor "ISO" image?
I'm actually finding that whenever I try to convert a file to CD-ROM the PC resets (I have two - both had the same problem) I think on my primary machine it is the cd-copying software to blame though.
DVD Decryptor seems to be the most efficient software I've used to date.
Most other software kept giving me an Atapi driver error so I did not get very far with them :(
I did try making a VCD and also an SVCD with the Roxio videopack5 software, but it also seems to be re-setting my machine :(
I'm not sure whether to blame Win XP at this point or my hardware ;)

you will have to set the correct settings in flask for (s)vcd or it won't burn correctly in roxio, and i don't understand what you meant by "converting to cd-rom".
i hope you are using the decryption keys to decrypt your dvd, if needed.
roxio 5 is the worst burning program i have ever uses, so either try nero or adaptec 4 for burning your s(vcd), so i probably blame roxio 5.
if you need help just email me at dani882@yahoo.com
here some tips:
FlaskMpeg 0.60 preview quality is a little better than
FlaskMpeg 0.60 subtitlefix, but subtitlefix is faster.
start smartripper, load the dvd, and push the reload button so that your computer won't give you an error or restart.
please! read the guides for basic help.

@gtd2000 But does this specifically convert the DVD Decryptor "ISO" image?
No, I think there isn't a software to convert DVD ISO disc images to another video format.
I'd like to change this ISO file to SVCD format (mainly for the smaller file size on my HD)
If this is the only reason I suggest you to use Gordian Knot and DivX 5.0.2 codec. Only two "pieces" of software, everything is included. You will learn how to use it very fast I believe.
For SVCD or VCD use DVD2SVCD. I think this is easier then Flaskmpeg becuase it runs almost automatically.

Well I decided to watch the ISO file again to make sure all was well - however, the movie (Memento) messed up after chapter 13 :(
The rest of the movie was absolutley flawless though.
So, now I can start fresh with a non-ISO file I guess......... ;)
I tried DVD2SVCD on my other PC (700mhz/256MB SDRAM) but an error was encountered at some point.
I shall attempt to try with my primary machine tonight 1000Mhz/512MB SDRAM)
I have ordered an XP1600+ from newegg.com for $51.99 shipped - not sure how much difference this will make to converting files but for the price it is worth a shot ;)

Hi, I didn't know that it is possible to watch ISO files. Which prog are you using?

Can you describe the error please?

Hi, I didn't know that it is possible to watch ISO files. Which prog are you using?
I used the program Daemon (virtual drive?) to "mount" the image, however, it is played back with Power DVD.
Just right click on the virtual drive and choose open with/play with Power DVD. Plays exactly the same as the DVD disk - then again it is a full sized file too ;)
I'll try converting a DVD tonight to SVCD and make a note of any error codes and get back here with the info. I just saw the error and had a few thoughts of "$@^&&%@^*(^@(*@(@!$@%%^@) then turned the PC off ;)

A-ah, Daemon tools, now it's clear. I have thought you load the ISO in a prog and play it...:p

From my very limited experience so far with DVD ripping, DVD Decryptor seems to be the most straightforward "newbie-proof" program :)
If only the other ones were to easy to use ;)
I'm pretty experienced as a PC user - but some of these other programs just do not seem to work as per the instructions - hehe - maybe I'm just dense ;)

Well, I don't know. Never worked with DVD Decriptor. My comp now is full with ripper progs - from GKnot and D2S and additionally SmartRipper 2.41 and vStrip - so 3X vStrip and 2X Smartripper and also the Internal Routines from D2S. For my first rip I've used to follow Sefy's guide for VCD creation. He explained in the guide how to use SmartRipper 2.41. So I used it. I only put the DVD in the drive, opened SmartRipper and click Start. Ready.:D
