Is there a automated way? Or am I still dreaming...
I have to convert a PAL DVD into NTSC. I have to send it to someone who has 'NTSC-only' television.
So, making it regionfree and editing the VOB's with IfoEdit is not enough.
Any help appreciated.

If it is progressive video, then it is technically possible but needs a lot of work:
* change FPS to 24fps
* slow down the audio a bit (4%) => regulate pitch using some audio editor
* resize to NTSC size
* make a new mpeg and audio stream
* telecinema (using flags only is enough)
* reauthor

Sorry to disappoint you, but it is and never will be possible without recompressing/reauthoring. Generally it is a lot of work. You should rather first check if the television is really unable to play back PAL composite - many are. And if you're planning to do this often, you better get one :)

And if source is interlaced, then you're simply screwed. Without blending fields you have no chance...

Edit: about moving: it was in IfoEdit, that's what I meant :)

acutally, this thread is an encoding problem, not authoring, so ill leave it here.

but yes you'll need to do it manually, as Yusaku said, but a more 'automated way' would be to use a program like ProCoder that will convert PAL to NTSC for you then just a reauthor is needed.

Er...
I don't understand :

"And if source is interlaced, then you're simply screwed. Without blending fields you have no chance..."

It seems to me a bit strange that interlaced ntsc mpg2 wouldn't be converted into pal.
I smell some framerate probe but...if u have the correct tools to edit the files and process them, where is the "you're screwed" factor?

whatever it is it's nothing but video....

I guess i need a bit of light on this, could you be more accurate on that?

I cannot tell you much about interlaced dvd pal, you will have to search a little about that..

But you can read my guide I have made for DVD-9 PAL to DVD-5 NTSC :

http://www.b2solutions.ca/dvdauthoring/guide2.html

There is too another way to convert your audio. Read this thread :

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24535&highlight=wavefix

MvB as reply with an attached file somewhere... just use those files and follow the instructions...

A note about wavefix.exe... your filename must be equal or smaller than 8 caracters, if not, it won't work
