Automatic brightness/contrast control ?

Hi

Many of the mpeg and avi files I watch have very different brightness and contrast levels (e.g. captures of TV series) so I always have to adjust the overlay controls whenever I start watching a file.

What I ask myself now is whether there is a tool that scans a movie
for the brightest/darkest pixels and adjusts the settings accordingly.
Hmmmm ... sounds a bit far-fetched but who knows :)

Yes it is possible to do some automated "normalising" of video (or at least you can with still pictures and apply it to the frames of a video), just that you have the same issues as with audio normalisation, some things are supposed to be dark/light, and you might lose that effect.
