View Full Version : White lines on the right and bottom of RCV subtitle bitmaps

We're using DVD2SVCD 1.0.9 Build 3 bundle to backup our DVD's. It works great for every DVD we try except for some RCV titles.
With these DVD's every ripped subtitle bitmap has a white line on the right and one at the bottom. It looks like the subtitles in the subtitle selection window don't have this white lines.
We tried on three different machines and always are using the complete bundle. No updates from ourself.
I made a tool in Dephi to floodfill this white lines but i think i write it back in the wrong format. Avisynth crashes when the first subitle is merged (fixed subtitles).
I've checked the Q&A, i've searched the forum and i've read the readme.txt to see if theres something mentioned about it that it will be fixed in newer version. No luck yet.
Is this a known problem? Is there a workaround?
I can provide more info (examples) if needed.

This is/was a known issue. It was more prevolent in earlier versions, and since has been fixed (or so we thought). Occasionally there will be a post such as yours where the white boxes have come back. A fix is not yet available, and to my knowledge, we don't yet know the cause...

It seems, that no matter what kind of subs are u using - the problem appears time to time . I have examined extracted subtitles (bmp files) some time ago , and yes - those white lines were there. So problem is related to subtitles extraction i think.

I know one guy who can help us here - DVD2SVCD;)
He has declared once ( in 1.8.0.1 version), that that problem was solved, but it still persists... But it is more rare now- i have noticed it in one movie working with latest program version

Wich movie was that, I have it with 2 movies in 2 days and it never happened before
at least not that I could not fix it with the sub color pallete
I was backin up Monsters Ball and Megiddo
both DVD's are from http://www.dfw.nl
But I did trie something out, it takes alot of time to do but it works
When the subs are extracted you can alter them using MS Paint or something like that
to make the white parts black by coloring in the white parts
When CCE starts to convert to VAF file, Cancel it and finish the altering
and when your finished click Convert
Just made a little test and it worked, but when you ahve a big tittle with lots of subs
it sure will be a long job to go by every single sub

Which is why you should use a batch-enabled image editing program, or write your own program to loop through a given number of images and fill in the white with black, or simply remove it. To sit there with MS-Paint and do each one individually by hand is insane :p

Hi-
I came across the problem once and solved it by converting the DVD subs to SSA format (use SubRip or SubResynch). Then you add them back to the movie by editing the .avs and using the TextSub Plugin. There's a major advantage to doing it that way in that you can change the font, color, etc. The major disadvantage is that it takes some time to do the OCR, and to edit the resulting .ssa file for OCR mistakes.

It's good to see that i'm not the only one with this problem :) but it's sad that the problem exists..
The bug is reproducable for me because it happens on all DVD's i have from RCV.
As said, i wrote a tool in Delphi that fixes the bitmaps but it seems that it saves the bitmaps in a wrong format. I can post the relevant source here if there's any Delphi guru interested..
I think too that the only one who can really help is DVD2SVCD himself because the bitmaps look good in the preview window..

I have had the same problem from time to time with several movies (Heartbreaker, Serendipedy, Family Man, China Strike Force). My "solution" is to process these movies with version 1.08 build 1 which I have installed along 1.09 build 3. This version created the correct subtitles without lines below and to the right of the text...
cheers,

Just used version 108 build 1 and indeed the extracted bitmaps are OK..
