Just a question, I use CCE 2.5 right now but would like to get some opinions on the differences between 2.5 and the higher version, I understand the issue about 2.6x not opening avs files but other than that, are there any differences in quality, speed, options, etc.? Anyone who has used both care to comment?

this might just be an isolated case on this particular capture, but i seemed to notice that CCE 2.64 would get lower avg bitrate than 2.62 using the robshot method (1600 avg one actually), unfortunately i am unable to see if its just my imagination or actually true.

as for 2.5 v 2.64, 2.64 adds XP support, DV support, Directshow avi (with DV or vfw codecs) and more options (SVCD).

You have Avisynth support in CCE SP 2.64.01.10

AFAIK CCE 2.5 offers higher speed because you don't need to pass your video stream through VFAPI. You can add avs file into CCE 2.5 straight away. Unfortunately, CCE 2.62 doesn't follow the programming standard. Anyway, CCE 2.64 allows you to add avs file into a project as same as CCE 2.5. However, I read from other threads that CCE 2.64 is slower than CCE 2.5 but offers more options and control over the project.

Anyway, there's something stange with my PC. I can use neither CCE 2.5 nor 2.64. I have no idea what happen. CCE 2.5 always crashes and CCE 2.64 always stop at vaf calculation processing. So, I have no chance to measure the true speed between these 2 versions. Now, I'm using 2.62 with no problems at all. I'm happy with it.

That's interesting, Justinus, because it seems like v2,5 is playing crazy on my PC the recent days. Lots of errors and now a very long encoding time.. I'll try 2,6x, too. I hope that will help, because it's making ME crazy soon..!

Using (the wrong) illegal cracks ?? ;-)
This might cause the non working 2.50 and 2.64 problems.

I am using CCE 2.50 on Windows XP and it has been working 98% of the time. I thought it doesn't support XP .. LOL .. go figure.

I think I'm ready for 2.64

yes, I have been having the same problems, and yes you are right, if you are not using the correct software with CCE and perhaps you ran the wrong "patch" file on it, you might get caught with your pants down. I sure did. Here is a thread I posted to see if anyone knew a more specific cause, but no one really seems ready to step up!

Read sticky post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16976) at Q5 saying about the popular reasons why CCE is crashed ;)
