I would like to start off by saying, "THIS IS A GREAT PROGRAM AND I HAVE BACKUPED UP MANY DVDS WITH OUT ANY PROBLEMS." But, have only had about a 50% success rate converting my divx backups to SVCD. I have read through all the treads I could find and tried the only thing I thought would make a difference. I DL the avisynth.dll beta file and replaced all the ones on my computer. The conversion still crashes on the second pass at exactly the same point ~ 74%. I have tried it a total of three times. I now the divx is encoded in Divx3;), but I'm not sure it it has vpr mp3 for audio. Does vbr mp3 cause a problem? Also can I covert divx with AC3 and OGG audio? Maybe the divx has a problem with it. Is there any program I can run it through to clean up any errors that would cause cce to crash? Is there a program that tells you what divx version it was encoded with and whether the mp3 audio is vbr? Here is the log, thanks for any assistance.

In misc tab you can check 'convert divx3 to divx4', this can solve some problems, just give it a try.

Do a search for "CCE crash", you'll get a myriad of topics dealing with every aspect of why CCE crashes, and how to fix it.

Ok, I wanted to try the 'convert divx3 to divx4' option on the misc. tab, but it is grayed out. I uninstalled all my divx stuff (Nimo Codec Build 7) and reinstalled with Nimo Codec Build 8. Installed Divx 3,4,5. Still the option is not available. I checked under control panel - multimedia - devices - video codecs and divx4 is installed. Any ideas?

You might want to try reinstalling DVD2SVCD. AFAIK if you have divx 3 and 4 installed then that box shouldnt be grayed out.

here's another question....why would you want to convert divx to svcd?

if your divx are "backups" then you should use your original dvd and use d2s instead of using a2s on your already compressed files.

I'd estimate that 90% of people converting AVI2SVCD are not converting 1 backup method to another, they're converting a downloaded file to SVCD. Most video downloads are in divx because of its ability to keep good quality at a relatively small filesize.

So much for the whole copyright thing...

lol..that was my point...im 99% sure it isn't a backup.

but yeah, vbr mp3 will not work.
remux the audio with virtual dub...
open the avi in virtualdub and go to audio->full processing mode
then go to file->save wav.

restart virtual dub with the same avi, video->direct stream copy
audio->wav audio (insert audio just captured previously).

file->save avi

then reopen this avi file with a2s and it should work like normal
