I just typed this out while using Mozilla, and it crashed.. so here we go again.

I got myself a MSI KT3-Ultra2, 512 megs of DDR, and an AthlonXP 2000+

Basically, the machine refuses to boot up unless I reset the CMOS.

The KT3-Ultra2 has a set of LEDs you can use to diagnose faults, and the board seems to get stuck at the "Memory Initialisation" phase of bootup. Now, if I reset the CMOS using the jumper on the board, the machine will load, It'll throw up an error on the POST screen about there not being any settings, and I'll press F1 to load the defaults, and the machine WILL boot. But if I reset the machine, or turn it off, it just will not boot, it gets stuck in the same place again.

Sequence of events:

PC Won't boot

Reset CMOS

PC Will boot, loads setup defaults

Turn PC off

PC Won't boot

....

any ideas?

I'm going to try flashing the bios tomorrow but don't really think it'll make much difference.

I had the same trouble and think it was the CMOS battery making false contact or something; but flashing the BIOS again helped in my case.
