i read about this Convolution3d thing
as i understand it removes detail, but can be configurated to do so less that it´s not visible but still removes some stuff to make compression more effective
but i always read about it in connection with xvid
so i wonder: does it only help with xvid or would it also work with other codecs like teh variouse versions of divx?
thx in advance for info

It is independant from the codec.
You can use it for mpeg2, too.
And if you really think those codecs can use it, then you can do that with all the other codecs in the world, too.
I don't quite understand the question, maybe you didn't read the FAQ or the documentation about avisynth? It's a GENERAL frameserver.

i´m askign specifically about "Convolution3d", as it IMO could be possible that a filter only has advantages (like improving compressibility) with one codec
before i cause more confusion (i gues mainly because my english is not too good when it comes to technical stuff, and so i write long strange sentences [like this one:)]) i´ll make it a simple question:
what does Convolution3d do? (not technically, just what makes encoding with it better than without it)
sorry if my english makes my posts unclear

I don't think Convolution3D is specific for Xvid. But I must confess I only made tests with Xvid (Divx 5.02 is not installed on my system).
Convolution3d is just a smooth filter (noise remover), the only difference with other smoothers (TemporalSmoother, TemporalSoften, SmoothHiq, ...) is that it work in time an space at the same time (read the .txt to understand better).
So the more noise removed, the more compressible the video should be. You will not have the same compressibility with all the codec (Divx5, Xvid or Nandub) but it should be better in any case.
Hope this helps.

I got excellent results with DivX 5.0.2. You can use the filter with any codec (like most, if not all filters).

thx guys
so it´s basicly noise "reduction deluxe"
and less noise means less unneccessary [sp???] stuff to compress

I wanted to add that I just finished two TV captures (Star Trek TOS, True Romance) encoded to DivX using the recommended 1,8,8,8,... settings. The result was amazing!
