when i encode with dvd2svcd(with unfilter)

the audio in:
44k-128 or
44k-160 or
44k-192,
everything is cool.

but when:
48k-128 or
48k-160 and
44-128 in mpeg5.1,
the treble is out of phase(just like a phazer)
with wind in the sound.very ugly.

(sorry, but i cant find good words to put here...english poor)
any help?
what can i do to encode without turn to 44k?
in 48k the sound is better(bass very good)!
thanks in advance!

Even though you used all default settings, please do the conversion again and post a logfile, so that we know more about your video/audio source. Also, are you converting a DVD, AVI, or other source? Downloaded video or direct from a DVD? Does this phenomenon occur with everything you try and convert or just this 1 source? These could all have an impact on your situation.

thanks UltimateDBZ
for your atention....

first i rip from dvd to hd with smartripper.
i rip again with internal routines this simple
chapter only to test the quaility of audio.
this is the first that i try with 48k-160-mpeg5.1.
the others i use simple stereo 44-160 or 192.
i dont know that it occur with every, cause is
the first that i have problems with audio.

this is the log:

  all known encoders (mp2enc,toolame,philips mpeg5.1) seem to have this problem with a certain type of tracks.

:)

a tip : since the whole end-to-end (dvd-to-svcd) conversion process already takes so-long, an extra time of downsampling your signal to 44.1khz probably worth it.

if you can hear the hiss - i advise that you kill it ;)

to emphasis the bass sound, you might wanna play along with BeSweet v1.4RC7 and its SuperEQU engine. you can design yourself any EQU you want, and put more loudness on low frequencies, and maybe also attenuating the high frequencies.
although i doubt the following solution - you might wanna test the mp2 product of an AC3 that had been filtered with a Low-Pass of, let's say, 20Khz, and then encoded to 48Khz mp2.
on the other hand, BeSweet uses very similar methods to equalize the signal or to change its sample-rate, so this won't save much time.
on a third hand (anyone around has a third hand ;) ?), you can set the quality of SuperEQU to low values like 0 or 0.2, and in that case, it should be faster than Sample-Rate-Conversion.

btw,
i also plan to add a quality switch for the sample-rate-convertor.
that way, users could make their own trade-off : quality vs. time.

@jorel:

I'd also like to suggest that you not use SmartRipper unless you just plain have to (internal and vstrip both fail). Just do straight internal routines whenever possible, this will help prevent audio sync problems and a few other issues.

jorel - first you need the shibatch super equalizer for winamp. i'm not sure if this is on dspguru's page or not, but i got it at winamp's plugins page i believe. then you can go into winamp's preferences -> plug-ins -> dsp/effect and run the configuration for the equalizer (this is all assuming you have winamp 2.x, not sure if this works under 3.0 or not...). then you can set the equalizer any way you want. if you want a lowpass of say, 16 kHz, you would hit "new" under parametric equalizer, set "lower" to 16000, "upper" to some value of at least 24000, and "gain" to a large negative value (at least -100 should do). then you hit save and save this to a .eq file which you can use in besweet.

in besweet, you use the equalizer file by adding the -shibatch option to your commandline something like this: -shibatch( -equ "c:\[the path of the .eq file].eq" )
you can also add a -q argument to that if you want to change the quality of the equalizer in besweet to speed things up.

hopefully this is helpful (and is correct - it's been a while since i made my equalizer preset file).
