First post so I want to thank all for doing such a good work here.
Recently I had a problem with subs. I ripped full movie, stripped unwanted audio and subs, dvd2avi project, tmpg, demux with Ifoedit.
Everything was ok with IfoEdit player and WinDVD from my hard disk. But the dvd-r in my standalone played ONLY with English subs which I stripped with Ifoedit earlier cause I kept only the Greek ones. I made one more try keeping both English and Greek subs but again whatever I choosed it played ONLY English ones. No way to see the Greek subs. Also in the subs menu I could see both of them but as I said whatever I choosed it played only the English ones.

Finally I used CCE and reauthor with DVDMaestro and everything was ok but the above problem remains and I would like to know what went wrong.

Thanks in advance
milio.

P.S. I also played dvd-r in my pc and it played ok with the Greek subs, but I also had all the files, original vobs and everything I worked with, in my hard disk so maybe it used something from there.

Hi,
I know the problem, i have the same thing with dutch subtitles.
I tried to find the difference with movies which DOES work.
I found out that the wrong subtitles appear when the subtitleID is strange:

The working movie:
English ID: 0x20
Dutch ID: 0x23

The NOT working movie:
English ID: 0x20
Dutch ID: 0x23, 0x20

So the trick is to set it back to 0x23 (and not 0x23, 0x20)

You can do this by VTS_PGCITI and set the status to the number of 0x23
I dont know the number right now but i can find out if you want me to.

Of course the number 0x23 can be different, just look at the subtitlenumber

Hello,
i have the same problem with subs on my standalone DVD.
No Dutch, only English.

Please can you help how to swith from 0x20,0x28 to 0x28 only ?
I don't understand how you change it ?
If i doubleclick the subsstream in VTS_PGCITI then I only get dec and hex values that i can change (80000000 and 80080000 or equiv dec values like -2147483648 and -2146959360)

thx,
Joachim

After stripping the streams, and the subtitles are still like:
ID: 0x28, 0x20 (or something like that)

Change the status of 0x28 in: -2146170880
close IfoEdit, open the ifo again... hope it helped
This will not work in the original IFO... but only after stripped streams

thanks rinkel,
I'll give it a try.
Perhaps a stupid question but how do you come to the number -2146170880 ? Where do you get this ? Is it calculation ?

just look at a movie with a lot of subtitles..
Then find the subtitle number you need, go to the vts_pgciti and there is the status with the number...

Rinkel thanks a lot. I`ll also try this. I can just confirm that I saw what you said about the "strange subID" in the movie I had the problem. So I think it will work.

Thanks again

milio.

Hi rinkel,

it works. Indeed IfoEdit makes a different number.
Think this is a bug, will report it.

thx,
Joachim

This problem also accours when you enables Pan&Scan under "Video Attributes" ... when you stripp the vobīs in IFO Edit

When you you play your "stripped" DVD on a standalone DVD-player with Pan&Scan enabled the only subtitle shown are english ... but the second you disable the Pan&Scan option on your standalone DVD-player it will show the correct subtitle.

I tried to change the subtitle value in IFO edit but it dosenīt seam to to the thing ...

If somebody have an soloution for this problem please post it ...

Ok, so I tried what Rinkel said, but it doesn't work for me (probably because I'm doing something wrong).

I demux the dutch subtitles with VobEdit 0.6 (stream 0x23) in The Story Of Us (and other movies, just happens to be I'm working on the story of us right now), then I Author a new DVD with IfoEdit 0.95 with the 0x23 subtitle stream and indeed IfoEdit names the stream English 0x20.
Dutch subtitles work fine (however they are called English in the subtitle menu, but that doesn't matter), but at 50% of the movie, the subtitles disappeared.

The subtitle ID in the original IFO is Dutch Subpicture Stream (0x23,0x20), so I tried the same thing with the 0x20 stream also demuxed and authored but this doesn't help.

When I read this thread I tried changing the number of the Dutch subtitle stream (0x21 after also multiplexing 0x20) to 0x23 by copying the number of the original dutch subpicture stream from the original IFO (under PGCITI like explained by Rinkel above) into the newly created IFO after multiplexing, but now my Dutch subpicture stream doesn't work at all. What am I doing wrong?
