Hi all, I wondered if anyone can help me on this one, I've been following the guide 'DVD-9 to DVD-5 "Full Copy" instructions'... All of the processes decsribed in the guide have been clear and straight forward, although I've been stuck on the last section.
After I transcoded the movie (using ReMpeg2 rather than CCE) creating the M2V and putting everything together in DVD Maestro as described, I used IFOUpdate to correct the pointers so that the chapters and scene selections line up, but it doesn't seem to work? the chapters and pointers are not altered?
I'm sorry if I've pobably just asked a dumb, basic question, I've restrained from posting anything till now to follow the forum rules but, I've been reading the guides and following the forum for some time and I can't see where I'm going wrong with this.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

If your chapters are still all over the shop then the film you are doing probably has more than 1 PGC per VTS. get the latest version of dvd decrypter (From Here (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Rippers/SetupDVDDecrypter.exe)) and open up the original disk. go to MODE and select IFO I then expand the small + signs on the VTS's and see if there is more than 1 PGC per VTS. If there is then you will have to use the Scenarist method http://www.doom9.org/mpg/ifoedit-cce.htm . I think you can do this in Maestro with playlists etc but Scenarist is better.
One question though....Why use REMPEG. CCE is faster/better and I find a much better quality at the end
Hope this helps you

Thanx for the advice Bodman,
Yeah there was more than one PGC per VTS. although the main movie VTS01 which was the part I transcoded has just the one PGC. I'll check out the scenarist method. I'll also stop using Rempeg just cos I'm used to it and start using CCE instead in the future.
Cheers

If the main movie (the bit you are trying to make smaller) has only 1 PGC then you dont need to do the Scenarist method and the other methods should work.

Something doesn't make sense here. You transcoded with Rempeg? Why are you using an authoring program then? You can just 'remux' using ifoedit, no reauthoring involved.
Reauthoring is only neccessary when using Tmpgenc or CCE to transcode. Not that I'm saying it's good to use Rempeg (quite the contrary) but if you did, just remux it with ifoedit and you're done.

Hi all, thanks for the advise, Yes you were right I didn't need to re-author on this occasion. Sorry, I should have ellaborated some more on what I was doing. I could have Remuxed with Ifoedit on this one but I was using this as a test to learn some more about re-authoring some complicated DVDs.
One quick question to ask regarding which program to use when transcoding, is it worth changing over to using CCE? Am I right in saying that Rempeg is more of a lame amateur choice for transcoding in comparision? Am I also right in saying that CCE only works from uncommpressed avi files? does that not make the task longer? I understand from all the other posts that CCE produces far more superior results than Rempeg although I have been quite immpressed with the results I've had from Rempeg (mainly used at high bitrates)
Thanks for all the advise everyone, keep it comming :)
..... I finally worked out where I was going wrong with my original IfoUpdate problem, It was a simple mistake, I had the Re-authored path pointing to the original rip,... yes that was incredibly dumb! oh well we sometimes miss the obvious mistakes
Cheers all

Once you have the ripped vobs you use DVD2AVI to rip out the d2v file (Approx 15-20 Mins). then vfapi converter to get the AVI (approx 5-10 SECONDS) then import the AVI into CCE and encode (normally takes approx 1.5 times the length of the movie but this depends on your PC)
So all in all as rempeg takes bloody ages (If memory servs about 20+Hours) the CCE method is a lot faster and I get much better results than with REMPEG.
Hope this helps you a bit.
