No subtitles but double sized picture

Hi!
I'm having the following problem. I have ripped my movie with GKnot and the subtitles with SubRip 1.033. Now I have the .idx, a .sub and a .smi file. As far as i understand only the .smi file with the exact ly same name as the movies is needed.
When i start the movie DirectVobSub is started and i am able to select subtitles. but they are not shown. (At the end one sentence poped up that's it)
Furthermore when the .sub or the .smi are in the movies directory the movie is twice the size as normal. (normal 448x192 - with .sub or .smi 896x504)

What's wrong here?

found out about the not showing subtitles.
well, they were just VERY async. And I mean very. Don't know what I did wrong. Well, have to re-synch them, I guess.

Didn't find out about the double size, though. Any ideas?

By default dvobsub doubles the size when it's under 384x288. This way it can paint higher resolution text on the picture. If it makes the playback too slow for you, it can be turned off on one of its property pages.
