Ummm ... look on the case? Alternatively, it might say so on the DVD near the center ... as a rule of thumb, most dvd-9s have a "golden" shimmer, whereas a dvd-5 is usually plain silver in appearance.

You can simply use DVD Decrypter for this. Insert the DVD, open DVD Decrypter, Select Mode-Iso-Read.
A window will appear on the right side.
Look for the following info: Number of Layers
If the number of layers is 1, itīs a DVD-5, if it's 2, it's a DVD-9
