View Full Version : How to use nVidia TV-out?

Hi all,

Sorry if this is pathetically basic, but I don't have much spare time to tinker as I normally would.

I have an old TNT2 M64 card with TV-out, but it's using the standard win2k drivers, and I don't get a signal when I plug the video-out into my TV.

- Do I need the drivers from the manufacturer? If so, how do I find out who made the thing? I couldn't find anything written on the card itself, nor could I find any kind of "nVidia gfx card identification program" to download

- Do I just need the Detonator drivers, all 10 bloody MB of them?

- Should it already work, and I have a bad RCA cable?

Thanks to anyone who can help - the girl I'm living with is starting to curse about not being able to watch DVDs in the living room.

I do believe that you have to use one of the nVidia-drivers, at least just to activate the TV-out.
And yes, the detonator drivers would prob. solve it but I don't *think* that you need the latest version *just* to get it up and running. If d/l is the limit I've put up an old version (w2k 6.88) that's ~2MB zipped.

Version 6.88 (http://leffe.dnsalias.com/688.zip)

Sorry if this is just a 2MB waste of space 'n time. (At least you could tell your girlfriend that you've tried :))

Thankyou my good man! You are surely a gentleman and a scholar. Hopefully this will work, I'll get back to you.

Though it's not a girlfriend I'm living with (I wish), and I think I could beat her in a fight, it's best to keep my cousin happy..

tv-out is sketchy on my geforce3. I believe the detonator drivers support any nvidia card. is the 10 megs the problem? what the hell could be in those drivers that make it so big  maybe it'll go back to the good ol days when you could fit all drivers on a floppy :)

Use TVtool.

It should recognize your TV Chip and turn it on.
There's another Advantage to the NVidia Drivers: TVTool doesn't produce the big black sourroundings around your TV picture, so your picture fills the screen.

My Asus graphic card (GeForce2) also has a TV-out and it only works with the asus driver. If I install I cannot use it.

-h,

I've got the same card using RCA out as well. All the Detonator drivers I've tried since 28.32 allow you to change from monitor to TV Out on the fly via the display properties. I think I'm actually using the latest 40.41 Detonators now and have never had an issue. I also highly recommend using TVtool to take full advantage of the TV Out capabilities with tweaks.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the RCA cable have to be 75 Ohms for TV Out?

use TV-tool...

if i remember correctly, recent nvidia drivers (29.xx and 30.xx) dont support TNT-1 and TNT-2 so you'd have to use some previous versions (28.xx? or 40.xx beta).

With tv-tool, all the tinkering with the settings is really made easy and you can get the most out of your TV-out. The problem with Nvidia's drivers is that you just click on "apply" and pray it will work (and actually, it doesnt..).

One last thing, if you have an S-video connector (which is, i agree, quite rare on an old card), use it instead of the RCA one. Your girl will enjoy the DVD quality and your technical skills even more...(and remember that if you're stuck with RCA, use a cable made for video, not audio, as they are different in quality)

www.tvtool.info for reference...

All drivers I've tried using up to 40.41 work just fine on the TNT2 card here. In fact I think even the read me file states this and the installer will detect the card.

RCA(also called CHINCH),SCART (called PERITEL in France(?))
coaxial antenna connector (called ANTENNA..heheh)
ALL have 75 Ohm impedance.......
so if it's analog video it's probably designed for 75 Ohm
input or output load.....

Er...that's not 100% exact.
RCA cables designed for audio purposes are NOT 75 ohms.
My lack of english may distord my words but i'll try to be clear.

Video cables have so-called 75 ohms impedance but in fact it is only relative to input's required impedance of tv's and decks. If not image is "burned" and signal may loop within cables.

That means that u don't have to mind this in cpu-tv(via tvout) config.
I use audio designe RCA cable and it works just fine.

this may be not 100% exact too.
