yes you can.. go to the software page on doom9 and get a proggie called AVISplit... it's an automated splitter for you...
but why not just put your 650MB file onto one 650MB CD?

Ok what I am trying to do is convert DivX that I made into VCD using Nero. The avi file is 650mb but when it converts it becomes 1200mb and that of course won't burn onto one CD. That was why I was wanting to split the avi file first. Am I going about this the hard way

well, i've never converted from avi to vcd, but theoretically, yes you are doing the right thing.

I have never done this either. I started out making VCD but it took too long so I went to DivX. but then someone else told me the were converting using Nero. Only their avi files were all ready split. When I get home tonight I will try this and see how it works. Thanks for your help

You'll find it on the main software page: www.doom9.org/software2.htm under: "AVISplitCalc 3.42 - calculates split points in your AVIs"
You will also need to install Nandub, which does the splitting.
This should help. Click on:
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/SupportUtils/avisplit.zip
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Encoders/MPEG4/nandub-binary-1.0rc2.rar
Of course, you'll need WinZip and WinRar to be able to use these. Good luck!

Thanks for you help. I help on a software forum but this is a great forum for learning this stuff.
Can I ask one more question? Is there a guide on splitting avi files like there is for making DivX? That guide was great.

Yes. Since you seemed to have missed the link on splitting files, just click on these two links from the Gknot guide:
Splitting subtitles: http://www.doom9.org/gknot-split.htm
Splitting video: http://www.doom9.org/virtualdub_procedures.htm#Splitting
You'll note that one has a link to the other.

Thank you. I don't know how I missed that. But I appreciate you posting them for me. If there is anything I can help you with please let me know and I would be glad to. Other than video software. This is a new thing for me
