Hopefully someone can help me with this...
For some reason, sometimes when I go to open or check the properties of a .MPG file created by DVD2SVCD w/CCE I get an error and Windoze Explorer crashes. Its Win XP, so all programs are fine, but explorer re-loads. The error reported is something to do with Appcompatibility, and always lists NTDLL as part of it. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas? If there are any Gurus that may want more info to help, reply and I will copy it all down the next time it happens.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe this can help someone else in the future...
Here's the error that popped up:
Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x0000000077f7e22a
Appname: Explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2600 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600 Offset: 0002e22a
I fixed it by opening Media Player and removing the file associations for MPEG video and DVD playback. :D
Tools->options->file types
At first, I tried just changing what program is used to open the file. After that, the MPG did open with my DVD software, but even single clicking on the file caused the explorer error. Once I changed the file types in Media Player, the icons for the files changed to the DVD player I have installed (Mediamatics DVD player).
I think the problem was caused by a filter called GRABMI_FILTER_SYSTEM, which apparently tries to go to the head of the class by pre-fetching info about the file, i.e. what codecs, what app to run on. Even though Media Player would play the movie with no problem, maybe its just the codecs I have aren't completely compatible with Media Player.
Update: Microsoft Quote
"The Grabmi.exe tool is used to "grab" matching file information of applications. Grabmi.exe is a part of the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT). When you install, the ACT is located in Support\Tools\act20.exe in the Windows XP CD-ROM.
The Grabmi.exe tool can be run on one file or on an entire folder. Note that usually it is run on an entire folder to retrieve as much information as possible.
The matching file information is used to determine what programs and versions are located on your computer so that specific layering fixes, application help, and hard blocks can automatically be applied to the specific program that is found. "

I had the problem once and remultiplexed the mpg with TMPGEnc.
After this the Explorer did a fine job.
In another case a mpg was encoded as a XSVCD with a bitrate above 2700. I didn´t find a way to make the Explorer not to die a horrible death.

I just experienced the problem with ntdll under WinXPHome but when playing back divx 5.02 files. I remember that when you go to start, programs, divx, divx pro codec, decoder configuration, under quality settings I had checked on all the boxes. After some trial and error, I found that it was the "smooth playback" option that was making any video player crash when trying to playback divx. All my players would crash: Ati file player, WMP 6.4 and 7, zoom player, and bsplayer. I unchecked smooth playback and now all is well.

This, with the crashing Smooth playback is a definitively a Xp related DivX thing, as it works for me (its basicaly a another buffering...) perfectly - W2k and never XP =8-)))
For the Exploder crashing i have no clue, tought i know, that when i overclock my CPu too much, the first thing that start crashing is Explorer, when i try to run it...
It just crash, so i run it next time and this time it usualy works.

I had this frustrating problem too. (0Xc0000005) explorer, all my divx players crashing.
I followed this thread and it solved my problem => http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=32212&highlight=realmagic .
I uninstalled manually realMagic codecs, dll files and registry entries
