Subpictures do not fit in letterbox 16:9 mode

Hi.

I authored a project including some animated menus.
By checking it with WinDVD everything is ok.
When I try to watch it in my Yamakawa 715 player it seems like the subpicture isn't resized (in 4:3 letterboxed).
When i switch to 16:9 everything is alright.

How could I fix that?

Which authoring system are you using? Maestro?

What is the resolution of your subpic? Is it the normal 720x480/720x576?

If using Maestro are you using buttons over video, or normal menus?

All my Subpictures are Resolution 720*576. I'm using Maestro Build 2.915a.
The problem is mainly on the subpics I used with button over video. They are off very much. On the "normal" menus the buttons are also off, but only about 1 pixel or so.

i have noticed this in DVDVirtuoso 2.5 (2199) also, and worked out that you have to compromise and make the button areas taller than need be due to a scaling issue with the 3 different things (the background gets shown in P&S, the subpic same, the buttons letterboxxed properly)

Auenf is right. This is an issue with buttons over video, and yet doesn't seem to be a problem for me when using normal menus (how I solved the problem). It's not limited just to Maestro or Virtuoso - it's the entire range of Spruce products. It does it in Conductor too. Following Auenf's suggestion of enlarging the button box vertically will probably solve the problem, but obviously you can't place the buttons too closely to one another!

I think you guys will find that all products have this "problem". In reality, it is the design of DVD that is giving you grief. Subpictures used for menues comprise the full screen of the display (they are not resized with the video). You may have up to 3 different subpictures for a menu, and each has an associated property: 4:3 (includes letterboxed at authoring time), 16:9 normal (as seen on 4:3 display), 16:9 widescreen, and 16:9 pan/scan.

For 16:9 normal you must resize vertically to match what will be seen on the display (squeeze it down).
For 16:9 pan/scan you must account for any shift in origin.

The player will choose the correct one to match what the user is viewing. Computer players must be set for 4:3 or 16:9 display (not computer display) to properly check the alignment.

But how can I do that in Maestro?

I can change the Aspect Ratio only for the entire Menu and not for a single sub.

You're having this problem using menus? I've found that Maestro seems to sort its own problems out using menus, but you get the problem when using buttons over video...

No, I used the wrong words, I'm still talking about this "button over video" (menus). How can I fix it for them?

right click on the button subtitle, properties and select the 'Track Properties' tab.

looks like you create (eg) subtitle 1 as wide, and subtitle 2 as letterbox.

Now everything works right on my standalone-player, I resized vertically to 434 pixels and added black to get back to 576 pixels.
But now I have the problem that Software-Players (PowerDVD, WinDVD) resize the subpicture and the buttons don't fit again.
Is the only solution for full compatibility to make appropriate 4:3 menus?

hmm, ill have to check that one out, which maybe a little hard without a dvd burner or a standalone to play DVDonCD.

I played around a little bit with those options in the Track Properties Tab and now its working everywhere !!!

The strange thing is, that I had to set the options the other way round.
For Wide I chose the resized picture and for Letterbox the unresized, this whole thing is a (little) bit strange, but now I'm glad that it works.
