You have to have only one DV codec installed - otherwise you'll run into problems...

I always have the Panasonic installed, additionally to the MS codec - just in case I need vfw compatibility.

I'd use the Panasonic exclusively, but I don't think Ulead Video Capture can use the Panasonic codec (capturing from camcorder only works with the Directshow plug-in).

Maybe I'm dumb to use Ulead Media Studio, but I like it as an easy capture and cut-and-edit solution. For editing home-videos, I only need basic titling, basic fades and audio dub - and that's all right there in Ulead and working fine :)

Canopus is without doubt my favorite, for decompressing - fast, free and supports VFW (Vdub/Avisynth with sound) - can't see why so few people use it.

I'm with theReal with regard to the use of the Microsoft DV codec since its the only one that seems to work with Ulead's plugin that writes to my camera. The downside is that I have to do the encode within Ulead Video Studeo.

It bums me out because I love to use Muliquence and VirtualDub. Multiquence sees the MS DV codec because its a WDM device. My MainConcept DV which is VFW compatable, however, is seen by VirtualDub. But since I haven't figured out how to get DV's encoded with the latter written back to my Sony camera, its simply an educational exercise.

If there is a DV codec out there that is WDM compatable rather than VFW (I may have my terminology wrong here) and that Ulead will recognize as "workable" please let me know, because I am going to use it.

By the way, bb, I presume that you mean only one WDM campatable DV codect can be installed at a time on a system. I have MainConcept as well as MS's and so far see no problems.
