View Full Version : avi file lag when DELAY is incorrectly specified (logo pause)

Hello !

I use GordianKnot for DVD encoding, and have come across
an interesting problem :

The DVD2AVI prog puts out an ac3 file with exactly 9840 msecs .
Thus, the video is also encoded that way :
during the first production company logo, which comprises the,
isnt it a coincidence, first 9840 msecs of the movie, there is
no sound . Now this is not a problem while playing back the file
made by GKnot, though it is when I try to cut that file into
two pieces so that I can burn it onto CD's .
I always get 2 desynchronous files, because NanDub (as does VirtualDub)
just starts the audio at the first frame of the video, which,
of course, results in desynch .

Now my questions is the following :

is there some way to either get that audioless part out at the
encoding, or to cut my movie file so that it can be split into
two parts without creating that desynch ?

Any suggestions welcome .

Greetings,

Jan .

PS : I was able to get it wo work, at the end, by extracting the audio with VirtualDub, editing the audio in CoolEdit, and multiplexing again . It would be easier, though , if I didn't have to do this . The thing is that one doesnt know beforehand if the DELAY amount specified by SmartRipper and DVD2AVI is justified or not , before making an actual encoding . I mean, one can try it, and if it didnt work, just make another encoding in BeSweet and then multiplex that . But is there a way to make sure beforehand ?
