Did you have any problems capturing at high res? For some reason I cant adjust the vertical resolution past 288 :( So even when the vertical goes to 720 it looks squashed. Is this a driver fault or the card's max res?
Thanks

Is this the AIW 128? I've never used this card (I started with the AIW Radeon), but IIRC a friend of mine who had the AIW 128 mentioned that he capped at 640x480 YUV2 with it. What are the options listed in your capping program?

in vdub, virtualvcr and avi_io the max res is 352x288. In ati's mmc 7.2 I get all kinds of capture resolution to choose from but no matter which one i choose the vertical res always ends up 288.
I read somewhere that its something to do with the wdm drivers in xp, and that I should use vfw... I've installed the wrapper but still no luck.
Anyone know how to fix this? Otherwise i'll just stick to 352x240
Thanks

Do you install DirectX 8.1? Read this

p.s. If you're in the UK, then use PAL resolutions. I only mentioned 640x480 (NTSC resolution) because I'm in the US. 352x240 is also a NTSC resolution.

Sorry--didn't catch the xp mention. Still, this is weird. If it were just the wrapper at fault, you still should be able to capture at full resolution in the ATI MMC program (on ATI's website, it says up to 720x480 MPEG2).
I would uninstall the ATI drivers, and then reinstall. Once it behaves correctly in the ATI MMC app, then reinstall the wrapper.

still no luck, no matter what capture res I select in mmc it keeps 288 as the vertical res...
I guess i'll just capture using 352x288 with hufyuv for now, still looks tidy :) I'm then going to compress it with 1-pass quality based DivX, should i resize in upto 512x384 or leave it? With a small clip I tested, I get about 5-6 meg for every minute when encoded to DivX this way and it looks good :)

I own an AIW 128 Pro and am able to capture at 720x480 and 48kHz audio with no problems. You're restriction may be a driver issue. I remember reading about this on one of the forums. You may also want to try the ATI forum at

Lots of good info there.

Use older drivers. The latest/greatest are NOT.
