well, i spent my 5 days or whatever looking for an answer and couldn't find one, so here's my question

i've tried wmp corona's beta versions, and it looks promising. i like the new features and everything, but why does it crash every time i play an avi or mpeg encoded using any given codec? asf files play fine, have no problems with them. but the avi and mpeg issues have to be resolved, so thought hey, just install an older version over corona, no big deal. i was wrong

i tried installing wmp 8 back over 9, but now i can't get to it. some runtime error or whatever. ever since, i've had problems with alternate players crashing and such in the middle of playback or even before it begins

does anyone know what could be causing this and how to get around it? i'm looking to either get corona to work properly or to get v8 installed properly

This was experienced by quite a lot of people if I remember... and there's a reason why you shouldn't try unofficial early betas... (it was NOT from MSDN CDs... it was a leak from MS!)

The cure is really easy; as far as I know - just reinstall windows :sly:

Try to install last official DirectX.

The lack of ability to play avi and mpeg is probably a DRM "feature".:D

As a rule of thumb: NEVER install Microsoft Betas on your main computer. You can never install older versions over an MS Beta. Same with DirectX - if you had a beta installed and it expires before the official release --> format c: :D
