What's the correct place for asking and discussing DVB questions? Here or the DV forum?

I've got some questions for those DVB users here...

Cheers,

Mijo.

@Ookami:
I'd say here is the right place as there is no dedicated DVB forum. DVB has nothing to do with DV. The DV forum is about digital camcorders and all related stuff. DV means "Digital Video" and is amongst other definitions a compression format (_not_ MPEG-2), whereas DVB ("Digital Video Broadcast") is about MPEG-2 transport streams you can obtain via satellite, cable or terrestrical.

Hi Ookami,
you are lucky you speak german because 99% of the european DVB sceene is german. Here are some Links

If this is not enough, maybe Happysat is what you are looking for

Oops, my bad. I thought DVB was a part of the DV (as both have "digital video" in it's name  ) specs. I never bothered to look more into it as I don't have the money to buy a camcorder, DVB card etc. I was (am) aware of the differences, but thanks for pointing that, again, out.

@Dolemite

Thanks for your reply!

Well, I don't want to join another forum and loose that bit of life that I still have :D .

Seriously, I am too lazy to read the rules, FAQ and of another forum.

For better reading and getting more audience (?) I'm gonna post the question in the next posting.

Cheers,

Mijo.

The thing is that I plan (since a few months) to add a DVB section in my Freeware list (I think that everyone knows about it by now)...

But, as I don't use DVB and the list that Ted mailed is gigantic (this is what you get when you mess with the link-master, Ted :) ), I've decided to ask the members wich have actual experience on DVB (there should be an end to this sentence, somewhere?!).

So, what programs should I add (not more than 10 please, for the starters)? What programs have deserved the "thumb"? Why isn't Amy Brenneman my neighbor?

Thanks.

not to forget multidec, in some cases still superior to the others.

Thanks for the answers...

What program(s) deserves the "Thumb up"?

Keep it coming, though.

Cheers,

Mijo.

For Windows, I'd say first: WINDVB, it's very good. It is shareware, I don't know if it'll make it to the list.

Shareware? Well, the list is name "Freeware" list so... :)

Now, as the list is getting bigger and even more popular, I think I have to define what programs can be added to this list. All programs must be totally free for non-commercial use, not be sponsored by banners, ads, spyware or anything similar. Postcardware (EAC) or similar programs can be added if their quality is exceptional.

Thank you anyway!

Cheers,

Mijo.

Well I got Hauppauge WinTV DVB-C (for Cable) and I'm using WatchTV Pro, it's my favorite because it has a nice interface, many functions and plugin support it's even better then WinDVB. Another programm for DVB cards is ProgDVB, it's still developed by a russian coder but it hasn't so many functions like WatchTV Pro.

Here's the link: www.watchtvpro.de

for me the best program is still DVBControl because it has the most advanced features, best recording features, best channellist features, which are the most important things of a DVB program. The other programs are more or less WinDVBLive clones and are designed to impress newbies to buy the program, exciting GUI but nothing behind. ProgDVB is also good but probably against the board rules

because it is possible with almost every DVB program to watch PayTV without paying, ProgDVB is very good in it

In connection with certain software, ProgDvb may be used to emulate a conditional access module, that's why it is illegal.

All the programs listed previously seem to be working only with cards
with an integrated mpeg2 decoder.
Mine is a Hauppage Nova-S, and doesn't have it. Does anyone know
what other programs can I use with it?

The program in the cd is Technotrends' one, and I really don't like it, because playback is jerky and during recordings the playback is still active, getting even slower.
My system has an Athlon XP 1500+, 512 MB DDR and a Seagate Barracuda Ata IV 40 GB, and dvd playback is always smooth and responsive, so I doubt my pc isn't fast enough to handle DVB.

I wonder if Intervideo's codecs are the bottleneck and if they can be replaced with others less demanding, so I would like to have some advise.

Thanks.

P.S. does anyone know what filters are used during playback? I saw two .ax files in the program directory (both installed manually with regsvr32), but with Filtergraph I can only see one of them, which doesn't have any output (only a reference clock); TTdvbGui doesn't show at all. I'd like to build a manual graph, can anyone help me?
