hi,
maybe one of you can help me out..
Well, I've got a problem with two of Tarantino's films..
I want to strip out all of the extras of the films, but when IfoEdit comes to the last step, where it chances the navigation packs, it stops and brings the following message: "synchronization failure on Vob file". I've tried several times, but always the same.. I don't know what to do now, does anyone of you?!
Thanks a lot,
Tantabootsy.

AFter doing ~60 movies, i am now getting this error as well. I got the errors with some movies recently (star wars 2), (deadzone), (bad company)...I tried 2 versions of ifoedit....95 and .91 and get same error. Anyone come up with a fix yet? or whats causing it?

Alright after several months of wondering about that error I contacted Derrow and he said it could be a system problem. He said whether something is changing the files while IE is working or my CPU doesn't work proberly.
At first I thought it was my BIOS settings I made to tune up my RAM a little bit.
But then I mentioned something different: I've got three HDs; two within a RAID (RAID0 I think, but I'm not sure) and one where my system's on it and the applications. So what I realized is that when I TOOK data from the RAID (so opened mainmovie.ifo from that HD) and WROTE BACK on that HD I always got that erro'. But when only choose the RAID HD whether for in- OR output (and for the other side in-or output the other HD, where my system's on it) -no problem, no error. Do you understand whadda mean;)?
I'll now try to convert NTFS datasystem on the RAID in FAT32, maybe that'll fix the problem..

@benf2: I'd like to know your system!
Mine is an ASUS-A7V-266-E, 2 Seagate (60GB) HDs, 1 Maxtor (40GB) HD, Athlon 2000xp, OS is XP.

I too am running a raid 0 with windows xp professional. I have 3 partitions. Running 2 ibm 46gig hds, amd athlon 1.3 and 512mb ddr.

I am running the os on NTFS, but the partition i have the movies on is fat32...hmmm, wonder if thats the problem? maybe i should change it to ntfs as well and see what happens.

A friend of mine has got his system on ntfs and on raid0 fat32, too(btw nearly the same system as mine) and on his pc everything worked as desired, I don' know.. but, yeah, let's have a try and please post your result!

I'd like to know if you were trying to author the DVDs you get this error with. Because I've tried both ways -IE and authoring (with Maestro)- and it seems like that doesn't work either. I always get a specific audio error when I want to import the ac3 stream into M. Could you try that, too (if you've got M.)so that I might find out if I'm too dumb or if that's my system, too?
I would very appreciate that..!
Thx,
Tantab.

i have been getting an error in Maestro as well for the audio..."cannot locate a frame sync word at an expected byte offset"

Okay at last I know that there's a connection between these two errors!!
On the one hand that's relieving on the other it doesn't solve the problem..
I was able to eliminate the synchronization error (could you already, benf2?) but the second one I couldn't get away, yet (and I try for months now with all the methods being posted in the audio forum, honest!)
So what the hell is going on here, doesn't anybody know?!!

Is what gets me is that i have done around 60 movies with no problems...why now do i get the ifo error and the audio error in Maestro, unless the ripper is causing probs cause they might be mulitple angle movies...such as star wars 2. I ripped the whole movie to hd then reripped (tried both smartripper and ifoedit) just the angle one. Demuxed the audio and no luck importing. I also tried using dvd2avi to demux the audio...still did not import.

I tried to do it again this morning after converting the partition with the movies to NTFS. Still same old sh..

I was lucky by using dvd2avi to demux only the mainmovie's Vobs. Then I've used ac3fix and it corrected the streams. But there's the same again: When I choose the output on the RAID the sync erro comes again in Maestro but when I choose the output on my single HD -no error(!). So I guess we've got a RAID writing problem here, which only comes out with some special files.. (btw I had problems getting my os working on the RAID that's why I bought the Maxtor). So please think about what you've done in recent days, did you change something on your system, maybe new drivers or controllers? That might be helpful..

Thats it exactly....the raid must be corrupt. I just tried the movie i had been having all the probs with by ripping, then using ifoedit, and finally Maestro by putting all the files on my external hd. And finally no errors. :)

So, to see if its the raid or a bad cpu or hd i will clear the raid then rebuild it. If it still does it after the new raid then its got to be a hardware issue.

Okay and please send me your results(by pm if you want to), will you?
I'm going to let my two HDs run in ATA100-mode and see if that'll work.. but right now I still have got four films on it so when these ones got backed up I'll test the different settings, too.
Bye, Tantab.

will pm u when done...as u know its a long process..have to clear, rebuild array, then reinstall everything. I would use my ghost image to make it easier, but dont want to take a chance so will reinstall all from scratch. Bye ;)

Guys.... Dont go into PM mode as I have a similar problem and have been following your posts with interest as I am sure many others have. I have 8 drives on my system and have been having problems with synch when ripping to the raid drives only (OS = W98SE) for about a month, I think that it started after an MS auto update patch was loaded.... something about DMA I think.

Well, finally back online...system crashed hard twice on me, so i finally switch from the raid to regular ide for both hard drives.. My raid is part of the motherboard. I will try tomorrow running ifoedit and maestro...as its getting late. IF this fixes the problem then the problem was definetly the raid. Will post results tomorrow sometime. I feel all i did this weekend was install the os time after time...

I just reinstalled the os and recreated the array. Fresh install of windows 2000 and will test tonight to see if problem is gone. I installed a utility that supposed to monitor the raid and hard drives for errors. So, far so good. I will try ifoedit and maestro tonight and see if the import on maestro and vob sync error is gone with ifoedit. My fingers are crossed.;)

Mine, too;) BTW what is this utility you're talking about?

The utility is supposed to allow u to ck the array and if there is a prob with the hard drives or array. A message should pop up telling u if there is a problem and it has different settings so u can have it fix it automatically. Will ck on it when i get home. btw..is ur raid on board or a pci? Mine is onboard. The file is small. I could email it to u if u want, just pm me with ur email addr.
