After screwing around with ati for the last 2 years, I finally dumped the money and bought a real capture card (I think) I bought the Pinnacle Pro-One system (Newegg.com - $670.00) It comes bundled with adobe premiere, impression dvd, etc.

I can capture in premiere from my vcr 720x480, with great results, although I still get dropped frames! On a 16 minute capture (uncompressed avi) I still got about 450 dropped frames.

Also, I was in the understanding when I bought the card that it would capture directly to mpeg-2, however, I can't seem to find any settings for this.

I tried to open virtualdub & capture there, but it won't see the pinnacle card as a capture device.

My rig is more than enough, P4 1.8, 512 DDR, 4-80gig 7200 hd's so I don't think that's the problem

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Thanx!

i have a pinnacle dv500 dvd ( 1 step below what you have )

here are some things to try

make sure its in pci slot 1 or 2 as these are unshard on most mobos
install via 4 in 1
install this http://www.pinnaclesys.com/supportfiles/ppe107.exe its will optimize your pci bus for the card

im not sure about the pro 1 specs but by dv500 dvd captures to avi via hardware dv codec via analog in , then using preimere it can render mpeg2 in realtime , i dont think it can capture in mpeg2 though i may be wrong but i dont see it saying it can cap mpeg2 in the specs if you need more help please ask , as these cards are very hard to set up and pinacle offers no support for them

install the via 4 in one drivers only if your on a VIA chipset mainboard , though the higher end pinacles dont support mainy mainboards
