View Full Version : Stable vs Development Versions

I was wondering if the practice that the Linux people do of having a stable version and a development version had been thought of/discussed.
e.g make the 2.0.x series bug free and add the new features to a 2.1 version (or something like that).
I realise that writing new code/new algorithms cab be much more exciting but it would give us camp followers a change to catch up :-)

I realise that replying to your own post is naff but-
What is the intention of the current work - to develop, develop, develop until a certain point and then stop and bug-fix or just play around enjoying the thrill of programming :) - No offence intended - just trying to get a debate going :)
"Users" need stable versions (IMHO) - can't help with the programming myself - can't grasp OOP - I'm to old (43):o
"Users" need documentation - I can do this (and so can others) if the changes to functions are just relayed to someone (I'd do it) - they could update the Wikki. Currently it seems someone is updating the doc.zip thats hidden within the the download zip - not good :)
Does anyone else think thee issues are important (or shall I go back to making my dlls multithreaded :o

YES!
I need more documentation..., - maybe just because I´m to old, too! (> 30) :D
Your point is good! I´d like to have one version of Avisynth which I can "trust" on.
But I must admit: I like to Dl new filters and versions every day...
(I´m old, but still curious...)

The doc in the ZIP is the latest snapshot of the sourceforge doc, which should be at least syntactically complete.
Of course, there could be more examples,... but this would make it even bigger and harder to follow.
So I think a good compromise could be that the more technical doc is in the ZIP and the examples, faq,... could be on the avisynth wiki (www.avisynth.org) which means it can and shall be edited by anybody with a good idea.
If you have other ideas about improving the ZIP doc let me know!
