hi,

I'm not sure, but is that 1:1 resolution from GKnot really the original movie size?
In some movies, the WB Logo e.g. doesnt look so much original, but it is 1:1 :confused:

any idea

Hi-

You get the DAR or Display Aspect Ratio from DVD2AVI when making your .d2v. This is the aspect ratio of the DVD (and not the movie), and it's almost always 4:3 or 16:9, and not 1:1. For more on the subject, read Doom9's article Aspect Ratios Explained (http://www.doom9.org/aspectratios.htm).

217 posts and you're still asking that kind of rookie question? I'm surprised at you yosemite:)

Neither original movies with best PC DVD players (using standard AR) usually looks with right aspect ratio, try to find spherical parts in your movie (sun, wheels...) then tune your AR to the *real* 1:1.
It's the perfect fitting method ;).

To do things easily, another (my) method is to divide Y (cropped is usually ~432 for 2.35:1 movies) by 1.42222222 fixed factor and round by nearer mod 16 (this is called relative stretch).

1.4222222 = 576/(720*9/16) (PAL movies)

P.S.: Gordian Knot (ITU Recommendation) hinted value sometimes results too aggressive (spherical objects become elliptical, but this may compensate watching TV-out due to non-square pixel)
