I successfully converted LOTR disc 1 from DVD-9 to DVD-5 with the guides on the website. I am now trying to do the same for the extras disc and have come across a problem I'm not sure how to deal with. VTS_01_1 -> VTS_01_4 contain 3 PGC's. I want to re-encode the video from these 3 and put them back together in 1->2 VOB files. But how can I join the VOB's (maybe VobEdit) and use IFOedit to correct everything before burning. Because in each PGC there are chapter points and such.
Thanks

You could use Scenarist to make mulitple pgcs. I never made more than 1 vts set though so I dont know about that part.

there's nothing complicated about that... you create the first VTS set as usual, then in the scenario editor you create another VTS set, add the appropriate PGCs, create the next VTS set, etc.

I see what you are saying about the first four vobs containing the three main PGCs but in total the set contains 15 PGCs. Although you can recreate the first 3 with Scenarist, you may have more problems trying to sort out the ifo file if you leave the others alone and may find it easier going through the motions with each PGC as it should make the updating of the ifo file easier. Doom is obviously more familiar with scenarist than me but I don't think specifically re-encoding 3 PGCs from a 15 PGCs set then trying to tie up all of the pointers is that easy.

I've done LOTR disc2 semi sucessfully, that is it will play. I re-encoded the first 3 pgcs from vts_1 but had to go all the way down to an av. of 2000 to get them to fit on the DVD-R. the training-day guide was perfect for this backup with one exception. After using IFOUPDATE and making an image, the disc stopped on pgc 15. I compared the original IFO with the replacement and found that pgc15 on the new was locked, can't remember the exact setting, changing this to match the original made it all work properly.
The only problem now is that 'Cheap' DVD-Rs won't work all the way up to the edge and I'd have to re-encode a lot of other pgcs to get the size under 4gig.

Thanks for all the help. Doom9, I must have missed your Training Day article the first time around, but have now read it and that technique worked perfectly.
Thanks Again

OK, I ran across a similar problem with 10 pgcs in 1 vts set. I trancoded and whatnot and setup my tracks and all in scenarist and followed the guides. But when i went to mux the data into vob files, instead of making 1 vob, it made 10 different vobs, (1 for each pgc). How do you get scenarist to merge all the pgcs into one vts set of vobs that if (under a mb) makes just one file?

When you create the project be sure that you specify only 1 VTS set. Also, in the Scenario editor screen under VTS_01 add more titles by right clicking on VTS_01
