I have a wierd problem with a pathed sony D8 TRV120E.
I pathed it for DV-in features, and dv-in now works successfully on "most" firewire cards. Iīve tried it on 5 different firewire cards and 3 of them worked without problems. But with 2 of them the DV-in didnīt work at all. Tried both with adobe premiere 6 and avid dv xpress3.
Just wondering if anyone have experienced that kind of problem? All cards were OHCI compilant... The cards that worked had chipset from texas instruments and the ones that didn't from VIA...

Seems like it's the same as with mainboard chipsets: stay away from via if you can ;)

I've only been using three different cards with a Sony PC100 camcorder and they were all working without problems --> the adapters were all cheap no-name cards wih TI chipsets.

I suggest to stick to TI for 1394 if you can. I have one 1394 card with ALi chip and it behave very strangely. The problem with that card my DV only can be recognized by the 1394 card only one single time. Then after I power down my PC and restart, the same DV cannot be recognized anymore (unless I reinstall the OS again). After a few repeated trial, I gave up and bought the TI one, now everything is normal again.

Hi dude,

u probe comes from the softwares and their ieee1394 card compliance.
For example Avid Xpress dv 2 works fine in both way (in out)with some cards and xpress dv 3 will only works "in" or not at all.
Same for premiere but it's compatible with more cards than avid.

Ps : with avid be sure to select the correct deck in the channel sttings (setting panel). and to enable the dv output.
