I have a copy of Power DVD that plays my SVCD's, are there any other good programs for playing SVCD's on a PC? Quicktime or any others?

WinDVD maybe? Some people says the image quality of MPEG2 is better with it.

WinDVD has by far the best picture quality, if you disable (with dvdgenie) the 'automatic' deinterlacing and fix it to 'force weave'.

Nearly all dvds are non-interlaced except bonus material and video sequences.

If you encounter a dvd that has interlace lines in the picture while playing the main movie, you can easily turn on the automatic mode.

But if your dvd is a progressive source (normally all cinema movies in PAL and NTSC (pulldowned)) the picture quality of WinDVD with 'force weave' is, as far as I have seen, unbeaten.

ZoomPlayer is an other very good player for SVCD and VCD, with a very good picture quality, too.

HoHoo, why not use WinDVD? You can download WinDVD 4.0 from the Free Download Area of www.jummpa.com

@duronlib:

i've striked you for violation of rule #6 (no illegal stuff).

you're also consistantly promoting this illegal software site (rule #5).

stop doing this!

Try SthSVCD, it's probably (the authors never replied my e-mail) freeware (?)...

It has a badder picture quality than Power DVD etc. but it is the only SVCD player on a PC that works like it should (chapters, no "uknown format" messages etc.).

You'll find the file probably through a google search.

AFAIK, the latest version is 5.5 and the ex-homepage (down) was www.herosoft.com .

Cheers,

Mijo.

The Herosoft HP is alive & kicking ... but I can't find the download on the page anymore. Here is a link: http://planetenumerique.free.fr/Download/sthsvcd.exe ...

The link should be OK ... it is my standard SVCD software player, mostly to check menu functions etc ... for actual viewing I prefer my standalone. It also switches between multiple audio languages just fine (some DVD soft-players do as well, some don't). A lot of people really dislike sths, though ... mostly due to alleged lack of stability, pic quality etc. Personally I am quite happy ...
