Hello,

having problems with other rippers than Smartripper 2.41 (e.g. DVDecrypter gives ASPI errors, though layer is reported to be ok), I have to accept that SR doesn't demux AC3's properly, resulting in about 10-30 CRC errors per stream. However, BeSweet was able to manage these CRC errors when using SSRC to encode to 2ch 44khz MP2. Now that I've got a player which can play SVCD at 48 Khz, I want to save the downsampling step and encode right to 2ch 48Khz MP2. BeSweet 1.3RC3, however, stops encoding after the second CRC error, saying encoding is finished, which, of course, is not true (log shows nothing, else I would have posted). When reenabling SSRC, BeSweet encodes properly to the end. Here's my command line for 48 khz:

-core( -input bla -output blah ) -azid( -c light -L -3db --maximize ) -2lame( -m s -b 192 -e )

For 44 khz:

-core( -input bla -output blah ) -azid( -c light -L -3db --maximize )
-ssrc( --rate 44100 ) -2lame( -m s -b 192 -e )

So I've got two solutions:
a) make Smartripper avoid CRC errors when demuxing to AC3 (atm using standard settings, WinIO)
b) make BeSweet handle CRC errors properly

Can anyone help? Thanks a lot in advance.

Sven72

(As this problem is more audio related than ripping related, I've put it in this forum).

you could use another ripper like vStrip, or keep using SR, but with fixing your extracted stream with BeSplit before transcoding.

Sven72

Thanks for your reply.

Neither BeSplit nor AC3Fix are able to repair the stream in a manner that BeSweet will continue encoding it at 48 Khz (same with HeadAC3he btw). As it seems to me, error handling is connected to using SSRC, because at 44 khz, encoding succeeds. Probably this is a bug in one of the participating .dll's , but due to my limited programming knowledge, I could not tell in which.

Seems I have to turn to vStrip, which - regarding doom9's guide - is not what I wanted (yes, I'm a dumb user ;-) .. *sigh*

SSRC doesn't fix anything.
could you please post your BeSplit logfile so we can see how seriously your file is damaged ?

Bummer. I only have the BeSweet log, which isn't very interesting:

[00:00:59.808] E7: CRC error.
[00:11:18.560] E7: CRC error.
[00:11:18:560] Conversion Completed !
[00:11:18:560] Actual Avg. Bitrate : 192kbps
[00:01:08:000] <-- Transcoding Duration

Please bear with me as I try to re-get the DVD (The Siege) and rip it the same way I did the first time. I'll then treat the AC3 with BeSplit and post the log.

Thanks & Sorry,

I have a little problem: i want to encode the two ac3-sound-files of a dvd in mp3 with besweet ... the two ac3-files ar similar and ar both around 350mb .... but when i have the mp3-files at last, the german file is 40mb smaller and there are only 60 except 100 minutes encoded!
I don't know what to do .... does anybody know??
thx

Well, let me introduce you to my art of encoding! :D
1) Decode the AC3s to WAVs using AZID in a dos command:
azid -a -c normal filename.ac3 filename2.wav
2) Encode the WAVs to MP3s using Lame/RazorLame to the wished bitrate

Success garanteed!

You can download Azid & Lame from the download page of Doom9
You can find RazorLame (best GUI for Lame) here: http://www.dors.de/razorlame/download.php

thx Are you encoding the MP3s as VBR? If so, it's not surprising that a different language is smaller when encoded. Also, if you're opening the VBR MP3 in Windows Media Player, the wrong length will be reported.

If this isn't the case then post your log as DSPguru said :)

until i fix it, you can try running the following commandline :

Just wondering if it would be possible to skip, as I was able to rip a badly damaged DVD with DVD decrypter, losing 4123 read errors but even so total sum just works fine. With BeSweet and different MP2/MP3
profiles the transcoding stops at exactly the same point. If I was able to skip there and go on with the bulk I wouldn't be stuck with a large 356MB AC3 audio file, that btw has no error in playing, which forces me to use two cds for a film of 105 mins.

You might be able to fix it with BeSplit ( -fix). If not someone else might have a solution.

Thanks. I tried that but to no avail. "E7: CRC Error" at the same point. Would really like to convert to MP3 as that makes editing so much easier (let alone possible) for me since I'm hopelessly out of synch owing to dumping the bad frames in Video. Any suggestions?
For reference I've attached the combined log files of BeSplit and BeSweet. TIA for your time and trouble.

1. your ac3 file looks extermly screwed !
2. try using BeSweet v1.3 with :
BeSweet.exe -core( -input d:\DVDVolume\VIDEO_TS\eyre AC3 T01 2_0ch 448Kbps DELAY 0msFIX01.ac3 -output d:\DVDVolume\VIDEO_TS\eyre.mp3 -logfile D:\temp\BeSweetGUIv0.6b50\BeSweet.log ) -azid( -n1 -c normal -L -3db ) -lame( --scale 1 --alt-preset 128 ) -ota( -g 10db )
3. try using your original commandline with v1.4RC.

Frave
29th July 2002, 21:13
Brilliant, your 2nd suggestion using v1.3 went smoothly over the CRC hurdles. Now left with a nice mp3 which is still out of synch, but
hey, never been affraid of manual labour. May I be so blunt in asking how you would handle that, I had to drop frames in the picture because of a damaged DVD (only copy they had at the VidShop of course)
I reckon I have to synch manually by deleting bits out of the mp3 with something like GoldWave or whatever.

DSPguru
30th July 2002, 06:05
i knew my 2nd suggestion would work, but would be interested in knowing if my 3rd suggestion also works (meaning, issue was fixed within v1.4RC4), would you mind helping me and running the 3rd suggestion and then posting your logfile ?

as for sync issues,
i'm not sure if i can help, but i would surely need to see the logfile here too.

Frave
30th July 2002, 09:29
I'm sorry, your 3rd suggestion using v1.4RC4 failed, same way as before, using the original command line. I've attached the log file for you. Should you require more testing, don't hesitate to ask, I used BeSweet so many times with superb results, it's about time I return favours.

As for my synch problems, I can only refer to the log files earlier
posted, especially the BeSplit one. My guess is that if I can find a
way to delete the stream errors out of the sound file I should be in synch with the video again.

azid -n1 BOOL in BeSweet v1.3 option is equal result -ota( -G max ) BeSweet v1.4RC6 ?
or
azid -n1 -ota( -g 10db ) in BeSweet v1.3 option is equal result -ota( -G max ) BeSweet v1.4RC6 ?

Im decide chose Overall Track Gain 15dB to same used based on Fail file in this Other try to make a file (view LOG UP).

"[00:32:22:912] Gain of 15.0dB had been asserted to file"

Is correct ? Used Gain db on the other fail file try.Or im Used 10 db value ?

Because my File create with BeSweet v1.4RC6 in (View LOG UP) have sound that im hear is little up and cleaned compared to my file
create on BeSweet v1.3 see DOWN LOG, but why ? Both files is 15dB.

i believe the best thing would be is replacing -azid( -g max ) with -ota( -g max ), regardless to BeSweet version.

DSPguru
7th August 2002, 23:53
BeSweet seem to stop on CRC error when gain is not asserted using OTA.
the easiest way to avoid this is to set the gain with OTA.
the only question here is - should we go two-pass, again ? or should we set the gain value manually ?
in my old post you mentioned, i suggested to set the gain value manually, 'cause the maxgain value was known (if i remeber correctly), but generally, it would be the best to go on two-pass.

also,
there is a confirmed reported bug about ota's maxgain being ignored on ogg vorbis mode, but that's not the case here.
(this bug would be fixed in my next release)
