Hi.

On the DVD package there is AR 2.35:1. But when I play the
DVD in a DVD player and manualy do: width of the picture/height of the picture I don't get 2.35. For example in Deep Blue Sea I got 2.42.
So how should I resize the video ? Should I use 2.35 or the 2.42 ?

Hi-

Use Gordian Knot to do your cropping-resizing-AR stuff. You can't go wrong and you'll save yourself all that measuring.

To add to that,

The AR on the DVD box is always an approximation. The one you get by calculating the AR yourself is the one the movie is truly encoded in. However it's alright to be a bit off with your own encoded version, you won't notice it anyway. It's almost impossible to end up with the exact same AR as the original anyway, unless you forfeit the resolution being divisible by 16 or even 8 which may cause artifacts.
