what does that mean , ill the dv files i have are pretty pristine really clear . i jusst dont understand the expression

You will find that DV sources usually compress worse than e.g. a DVD source. The CCD chips introduce noise, and that's why you have to care about denoising.

Try to compress an unfiltered DV movie with Divx 100% quality (quantizer 2). Especially in very detailed scenes the bitrate will be somewhere between 6000 and 8000, even with b-frames enabled...

I think the big difference to DVD is also that DVD movies are filtered and prepared for mpeg encoding by professionals with professional tools. With DV, you have to take care of that part for yourself because it's highly detailed and unfiltered.

DV mainly compresses worse in comparison to dvd source because of its interlaced character, its extreme detailed sharpness and of course because the user shakes the cam too much (which no encoder likes).

If the movie is outdoor filmed (preferable with sunshine) you don't have any noise.
Problem is of course lowlight noise on indoor movies ...
