can i Translate subtiltles??

i have allot of subtitles in english (microdvd format) and i want to translate them all to my launghage "german" how can i do it?
if there is a prog that to it plz someone tell me plz.

nothing easier than that: open you sub file in the notepad and replace the english text through german or whatsoever, than save it (to a new file)!

But asre you able to put german font into the text editor? I ahve been trying to do this with korean language, and I have been unsuccesful. I have tried all types of subtitle inputer, editors and none I have found to accept korean font type. Any suggestions from anybody out there?

Hello everybody,

Well, I don't want to discourage you in this issue, but translation is too serious a business to leave it (only) up to programs and certain translation engines. Such automated translation services and programs of course can help you a bit with separate words, phrases, sentences, etc, (or can "assist" you during your translation process) but the ultimate aim of any translation is to create the meaning of the text as a whole in the target language.

I don't want to go into details and elaborate on the subject from a linguistic point, but briefly I can say that the results you get in this way will most probably be very very disappointing, unity and meaning will be lost, especially in the case of translating the subtitles of a movie, which requires great effort and experience together with the creative, expressive use of language.

Anyway, as a freelance translator, what else could I say about this subject? ;)

German and english are very similar in grammar, translations are usually very good between these. Well, at least for me who only learned both :)

@iago, yes ;) This program help you by displaying the two subs in sync with the movie, making translation easier :)

Of course one has to do the work manually, or you'll end up with a very sucky sub :D

I have said it all the times happens. It's Artificial Intelligence, not for 2002, yet.
Any translation tool is intended to be as co-operation tool not as automated tool ( :scared: ).
