Hi All, I wasn't sure where to post this thread but I've come a custom to this forum, but my question is hopefully an easy one. Just wondering when pulldown is needed to be used in the NTSC world?
SVCD @ 23.97fr - YES
VCD @ 23.97fr - NO
DVD(704X480) @ 23.97 - ?

Does it matter if is a xVCD or xSVCD or mpeg1 or mpeg2 stream?
I've been doing some test's with 704X480 @ 23.97 and like it, but if the movie is 29.97 does it matter if I encode everything at 23.97?
Please put this thread in it's proper place if this is the wrong place.

Thanks

As far as I know (and I dont know that much :)) you need to use pulldown all the time on a NTSC movie. If you want to be able to play the movie on your TV then the FPS has to be set at a certain rate for the TV to be able to play them.

PS If someone knows that I am wrong please write back, I would love to know what the answer is to this. Thanks

Would there be a benefit to not using them? (besides the small time savings)

If not, I'd just go ahead and use the all the time just to be sure :)

I'll have to search for more info.
