After doing a lot of tests during the last month, finally i found a proper way to backup my DVDs and play those SVCDs in my Pioneer DVD.

The problem i had: CCE and TMPEnc produced good quality SVCDs but those did not play well in my DVD (and a couple of other brands). I had temporary freezes, jumps, strange artifacts in black areas etc etc.

The problem is that Pioneer DVD doesn't like at all bitrates below 1200. Below that it is apredictable. It may play it well, it may not. I haven't found any problems with the high bitrate.

Using I-Author seems to make things much better, but then i had 2-3 seconds lost sync with the audio. Also i haven't found a way to fix that.

The solution. Do not use CCE. No matter what i did, CCE doesn't respect the low bitrate settings. Pitty since CCE is better than TMPEnc in fast moving action. So i use TMPEnc plus, with min 1200, max 2200 (and avg 1950), Constant Quality and padding enabled. It seems that the VBR part of CQ is very-very good.

This is my solution and i have ripped around 10 DVDs with very good results. I have two small problems: an error during muxing in SOME DVDs, that come from TMPEnc padding (i think) and TMPEnc blockiness in some fast moving scenes.

I hope i have helped
