Hello everyone,
I have 2 dvd's that are scratched. I need to find a way to repair them. They will both play in my computer but not my standalone. These dvd's will not get past the "loading" phase in my Apex 3 disc changer. I don't think it is the player because it plays everything else including a dvd that is cracked near the hub. I'm looking for a homemade fix (1) because I'm cheap, (2) because it's late and I really want to watch these tonight. These are supposed to be new dvds but when I got them they had gotten loose in their boxes and rattled around. The scrathes don't look all that bad, I think they are just in the right places to screw up things.
Some help please!

You can try with toothpaste or a good clear carwax perhaps.

Go to the store and buy a DiscDoctor or other
brand of disc repair tool .They remove all but
the deepest scratchs . I think there about $29 .

Or see if your local video store will do it for you .
One of the local game rental stores near me charges
a couple of bucks to fix cds and dvds .

Thanks for the replys GregS and Fox Mulder,
I tried the toothpaste and it did not work. I went to the staor and got a disc repair kit. I've made 2 passes over the surface and it does look better but my Apex dvd player still does not acknowledge that the disc is there. I let it set in there for over a minute then I heard the disc spinning as the player went to the next bay(3-disc carasel). That was a nasty sound! After the player checked all 3 bays it said no disc and basiclly shut down. Could something else cause this? Like some format conflict? I've never had this happen before and the dvd still plays in my computer but my monitor is going bad.

You can use toothpaste or peanutbutter.

Peanut butter? Kidding?

Ya , the chunky kind for deep scratches .

Those disc doctors work really well . He probably
would have had better luck if he didn't put the
toothpaste on first .
