What do you prefer as a method of demuxing a m2v from a set of vobs wihtout re-encoding? I've been using vobedit (join clips) after I strip possible ID's I don't want (say copyright warnings etc with Ifoedit). Is there a faster solution around?

I think that both DVD Decryptor and Smartripper allow you to strip a stream straight from the dvd.

If you want just the m2v you can use SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter.

yea why not?
problem is, if you try to extract a chapter in the middle of the movie, it sometimes doesn't get the mpeg header or something, and yields a "bad" m2v file.

its a pain in the ass...i wish there was some way to extract m2v files for each vob file without the header problem i keep encountering.

That's because it is one big stream. There are no "breaks". Why would you only want to extract certain chapters anyway?

I wanted to make a DVD-R that has several of my favorite movie clips from various DVD's I have. I already made one, but its got audio sync problems up the butt. But other than that, it's really neat to have all these clips together one after another. you can create 2 hours of pure adrenaline rush.

Thanks for replies. At the moment I'm trying to figure out the handiest way to get a working m2v stream from region 1 disc that features RCE (I am going to reauthor adding few new subtitle streams, the video is small enough when I dump unnecessary audios so re-encoding is not needed).

When I use ripper in stream mode (tried Smartripper as well as DVDDecrypter), there won't be any error message and resulting m2v seems to be expected size. But when I try to play it, the picture is mosaic and won't play properly (all region 2 streams and non RCE region 1's work beautifully). When I try to import this stream to Meastro importing goes in few seconds (normally it would take a few minutes with my machine) and I get no error messages. The stream is invalid though, as it does not play in Meastros preview (all other projects do).

If I rip the movie in backup mode and play it in PowerDVD there's no problem, everything works beautifully. I tried to open the project with Ifoedit to remove RCE (seemed to be successful), then demux with Vobedit to get m2v. Still the stream does not work. BTW, the very same movie from the very same movie worked problemfree when I did a divx conversion few months back.

Any ideas how to solve this annoying problem would be greatly appreciated.

Within SmartRipper, you selected the video stream you wanted, and then chose to "Demux to extra file" instead of "Direct stream copy" or "Extract to new vob"? Just checking, dvdRENEGADE

to dvdRENEGADE: yes. The method works perfectly fine with everything else except few region 1 RCE ecrypted discs (10 Things I Hate About You, Rat Race for example), so I figure this issue must be linked to RCE.

you can perhaps try mpg2 editing tools like myflix XE .
I use myflix normal for editing/cuting mpg1 and it's fine, but i did not try the mpeg2 version yet, myflix XE
