GSpot v1.1 fixes and enhancements

1. The 4cc code specified in "stream format" ("strf") is now the dominant one, not the one specified in "stream header" ("strh"). This should eliminate the misidentification of DivX 5 encoder, in particular. (DivX 5 uses contradictory values of "divx" in the "strh" field and "DX50" in "strf". Note than when non-matching codes occur, GSpot shows them both in the FourCC box - the two codes are separated by a slash. The dominant one (now "strf") is listed first.

2. Internal support for five additional audio formats.

3. You can now edit, delete or create "RIFF INFO" text for your AVI. Just right click on one of the info fields displayed, or use Edit from the main menu. GSpot features hi-speed "in place" editing without re-writing the entire file. Any space needed for new info text is recovered from existing "JUNK" chunks, so the comments can be added with no change in the resulting file size.

4. Now displays image size in pixels and the corresponding aspect ratio.

5. Will now process a filename supplied on the windows command line, similar to many apps, providing limited support for "open with" and dragging files to a shortcut.

6. Now identifies Ogg Media format files, and displays an appropriate message. These files are sometimes incorrectly labeled AVI, but GSpot will identify them regardless.

7. If the audio stream is MP3, GSpot will determine and display whether it is "VBR" (variable bit rate) or regular old "CBR" (constant bit rate). This is achieved by looking for the so-called "VBR header"; if that doesn't exist it will scan the frames themselves to make the determination. If the header is present, GSpot can sometimes determine the brand (and sometimes even the version) of the audio codec used. Any such info obtained is displayed in the two audio-related info boxes

8. Other misc. fixes and cleanups.

Are you by any chance behind a proxy? Maybe you have to hit refresh or empty your internet cache.

Too stupid, yes, it might be that damn proxy. I didn't get the new page neither through Refresh nor through Shift+Refresh. But suddenly it's there! I have to keep that in mind...

Thank you very much.

GSpot sometimes detects audio as "AC3 384kbit/s VBR"...what is this VBR thing about? Is there something like VBR AC3? And why is the reported bitrate always same as regular bitrate then (384/448)?

And if there is VBR AC3, is it safe to mux it the same way as "normal" AC3 (as there were special hacks needed for VBR MP3)...

It also seems to detect VBR MP3 as CBR MP3 sometimes... perhaps also the other way around? I dunno ;)

Can someone verify the bitrates for the DivX video that this util presents?

I've also e-mailed the author about some impreovements and wanted features (commandline output, channelinfo for audio, different presentations etc), and he actually answered :)

Maybe the autor should add a change aspect ratio of existing avi file thing too? ;) :p

If possible?

...i have some movies, avi ones, where I need this so bad - so I did not need to change the aspect ration in BSplayer... :o
