Hello all! I'm having a problem compiling VCDs. The problem is that the chapters are all wrong.

For example, I'm ripping a 12 chapter DVD, with the PBC Use Playlist option selected. But when the VCD is compiled, I only get 11 chapters.

Also, the chapter points are all wrong. For example, on the DVD, Chapter 2 starts at 5 minutes, but on the VCD, it's at 2 minutes! However, the time is displayed correctly.

I've tried Entrysvd and PBC Use Selections, but it's still all wrong.

This happens with about 70% of my rips, everything else is fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I think that some vcd authoring programs can only add an entry point chapter at a sequence header. So if you set the chapter at 5 mins and the closest sequence header is at 2 mins, well your stuck with that.

When you encode make sure and tell the encoder to set 1 sequence header per GOP. This should probably solve your problems but if not get Mpeg sequence maker at http://www.vcdhelp.com/download/MPEGSequenceMakerv02.zip

It inserts a sequence header every .5 secs so I suppose that at the most your chapter point will only be off by that much.

This should also solve your problem with certain chapters not being added at all. In your current mpgs you apparantly have more chapter points than sequence headers.

Thanks, I downloaded the program...but it only works with MPEG1, so I guess I'll have to do it with the encoder. I'm using TMPG...how do I set the sequence headers with that? I'm looking at the advanced options, and here's the following options:

# of I Picture in GOP (currently set to 1)
# of P Picture in GOP (set to 4)
# of B Picture in GOP (set to 3)
Output Interval of Sequence Header (set to 1)
Max. Frames in a GOP (set to 0)

How should I set each option? I'm thinking it's the Output Interval I should really worry about, but I just want to make sure. I really appreciate any help, thanks a lot!

@JhunKOF2k

in your text I canīt see any authoring software you used. May be "DVD2SVCD", Then you should post the question in that forum.
Because this forum is only for specialist, whoīs wish is to get maximal flexibility in authoring the svcd and hates the all-in-one newbie-friendly solutions(thus unflexible) like "DVD2SVCD".

Remmeber: when you donīt tell which software you use, no experts in the world can help you.

Iīve authored meny, meny VCDs/SVCDs with I-Autor and TSCV without problem with chapters.

I'm using VCDImager...I just thought maybe since I'm having trouble only with making the VCD image, (everything other step was fine), I thought maybe I'd get help here in the VCD Authoring forum. I thought that was logical. Yes, I am a newbie, but so was everyone at one point, and the best way not to be a newbie anymore is to ask for help and learn, right? I mean, these boards aren't here for nothing, right?
