Yepp, it's official and here is the German version:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/SP/SP3/NT5/DE/w2ksp3.exe
But after installing it you might want to set those registry values this way:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Windows
Update\Auto Update]
"AUOptions"=dword:00000001
"AUState"=dword:00000007
This disables the new "Automatic Update Feature" (don't know how it is called in the English version) that let Win2k go searching and silently downloading new updates when you're online (perhaps some DRM stuff in the future).
You can disable this from within the system applets but some users reported that this does not work allways. Make sure to look at two new system tasks that are started automatically also, just set them from "automatic" to "deactivated".
Don't ask me for the exact English names of them - but must be something like "Automatic Updates" and "Intelligent/smart backgroundtransfer...something".
Greetings,
Gerti
P.S. I'm runnig SP3 without any problems so far.

had some serious trouble with the update, it kind of slowed down my whole internet datatransfer to 1k, but after using the recovery options of Win2k and overwriting some files I got it working again,.. ( had the "Automatic Update Feature" disabled all the time,.. there's also a new Feature called something like "Intelligent Backroundtransfer" u also might want to disable this feature too, at least I disabled it because of the fact that I don't trust M$ ;) )

When I updated using the /u option (unattended), something must have gone wrong and after a reboot, all I could reach was a BSOD page fault in non-paged area...
Fortunately I already had a newly burned Win2k SP3 bootable install disc in my CDRW drive, so I re-installed Win2k in no time. Now it works fine, I don't know what the problem was with the first update (probably the /u option, whatever...).
If you also want a Win2k SP3 bootable CD that installs without a serial number, look here: http://www.thetechguide.com/articles/slipstream.html
here: http://www.thetechguide.com/articles/win2kserial.html
and here: http://www.thetechguide.com/win2kbootcd/
good guides, works great!

IMHO a better guide is this one (http://www.bink.nu/Bootcd/default.htm) because more complete and because all other guides I've read (including theReals) miss the SP identifier-file problem.
I'va had the problem that I did need it to get a installable version.

Usually, you'll have the correct identifier file where you need it when you copy the files from CD to HD - that's probably why this is not mentioned in any other guides.

No, because these identifier files depend on the service pack you're "slipstreaming".
e.g. you need "CDROMSP3.TST" for SP3 in your CD root which you'll definetely not have if you're copying from a non-SP3-CD.
The reason why it is not mentioned in most guides is that only some distributions (like the OEM IMHO) need it... like mine.

That's interesting - I just had a look at my new SP3 CD (it does work, I just installed from it). It contains a cdromsp3.tst file that is 0KB in size. The win2k version is OEM (German) and the original CD was the first release, even before SP1.
SP3 must have inserted this cdromsp3.tst file, the date is 22.07.2002 (or 07/22/2002, if you like it the American way :)). The CD works, however.
The root directory also contains a cdromsp2.tst file - I guess that must have been added when slipstreaming SP2, the date of this file is 04.05.2001 (05/04/2001)
The guide is also a little vague about this, it says "this file may already be there after the slipstream process"
It was, in my case. God knows why...
TactX, I just saw your location is "Benztown" - do you mean Stuttgart???

Mine is german/OEM too. But I had to copy the identifier files manually. Really strange.
Seems like no one really has an answer for this, propably not even MS :)

what does the SP3 do?
Probably just adds some MS spyware features ;)
I don't know, really. I just like to update to newest versions (even it is sometimes a big mistake...)

Instead of guessing, why not read what M$ claims is in it? http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp3/default.asp
Among other things, Automatic Updates gets installed.

Hi,
it add's MPEG-2 decoding with the Ligos engine. So finally MPEG-2 playback works w/o installing a SoftDVDPLayer. You needs it.
