this is really peculiar..i have an m2v file generated by tmpgenc and an ac3 file i generated with softencode from 6 wav files.
The ac3 file (according to softencode) is 21 minutes 50 seconds, and so is the m2v file.
But when I use them in spruceup, the sound is off by at least 2 seconds!! what the hell? any clues? i've never seen spruceup do this before when trying to mux the video and audio.

Since you created your own AC3 file, the timecodes do not line up properly. You can try to correct this one of two ways. First, in SoftEncode, set your timecode such that it starts at a slightly different time and is in sync. You could also experiment with some delay settings using a utility called AC3Delay (do a search). One of the two should get your audio in sync or at least so close you won't notice.

In softencode I noticed a section for adding timestamps, is that what you mean by setting the timecode?
The sound is actually delayed too much...the video is about 2 or 3 seconds ahead of the audio.
So a guy's mouth will move and then 2 seconds later you hear him say something. very disconcerting to watch !!!
my other videos aren't nearly so out of sync..they're maybe 1 sec off..or half a second off.
I'll explain what i'm doing in case this helps.
first, i use dvd2avi to serve the vob files to adobe premiere. then i use dvd2avi to demux the ac3 file. then i use softencode to turn the ac3 into 6 wav files, then i use adobe premiere to cut out portions of the video i like including the wave files.
then i export the video to tmpeg and encode it, then i export the 6 wav file pieces and encode them back into ac3 using soft encode.
so somewhere along the way, the sync gets messed up.
i'll look into that ac3delay program.
thanks for the suggestion.

Just an update in case it helps anyone else.
ac3delay did the trick! it lets me adjust the audio so it matches the video :) pretty cool.
